It says to tighten the flange ... then push the connector down and pull up ... tighten as in squeeze, as it's a locking ring I guess?
Its a bit of a funny connector eh. I couldn't figure it out either but like you managed to get it to release, and not quite sure how...
I think it's push down. Will have a play with it when I put it back together. Halfway through fitting fog lights.
To disconnect, you push down the white outer ring and fuel connector together, hold the white ring down and pull the fuel union out. To reconnect, push the fuel union full home and lift to check it's secure. They are fiddly, especially to disconnect. Just be patient.
I had one of those style connectors on my 675 Daytona. I always managed to get it on and off OK, but never really worked out quite how I did it ....
