Is It An Import? Does It Matter?

  1. My 2002 ST4 has the clock shown by Red998

    Miles seem to be accurate

  2. On reflection, and looking back at the other photos, I now think mine’s had a face change on the clock, or maybe even an entire clock change:astonished:.

    For a start mine goes to 200mph. Secondly, the background of the dial is a checkered pattern, inconsistent with the background of the rev counter and other speedos posted above.

    Mine looks like it’s from a completely different bike:confused: perhaps changed when the bike was imported into Ireland so as to provide something with kmph as well as mph, or did they all have dual readings straight out the factory? I know my UK spec 99MY 748 has a miles only speedo but now has a km only speedo as I changed it. :thinkingface:

  4. Ducati used to do a mph only speedo for UK but it was deemed to be a potential MOT failure (scaremongering) due to not having km/h included. My '96 M900 had that one. I'm not sure when they changed but your '98 748 was probably one of the last.

    Chequered background will be from a different bike I reckon

  5. Im with you Paul...the more I look into this the more confusing it becomes and the more I find out just how many different variations of speedo appear to be out there

  6. I had a test ride on a M900 from a Ducati dealer just before I bought my M900 from a different dealer back in '97 - the speedo didn't register anything - I think that's you answer :thinkingface::D

  7. Disconnected behind the clock:astonished:.

    ‘I’ve a bike here sir with only 5 miles on the clock, they must have done that at the factory;), I can offer you a grand off list’

  8. I think we have successfully hijacked this thread:D but as the OP hasn’t been seen for 1yr 33wks I sure he won’t mind:).

    Now, where on Earth did my speedo come from?

  10. They offered it to me for £450 more than the one I bought - which had a verified 1,300 miles on the clock (I knew the previous owner). The one I bought was also a reg letter newer (P v's N). When the dealership suggested I may be buying an import at that price I pointed out it had their details on the number plate..... they went quiet :D

  11. In moments of boredom, I'll look through ebay and type into their search ...Ducati nos... I'm still surprised what is sitting out there and some at a fair price
