Hello everyone, My first post here, hopefully the first of many! I have been dreaming about the Ducati 996 since I first saw it when I was 11 years old, it was love at first sight. Fast forward to this day and after doing a bit research here and there, I have decided to start the search and have a look at the available options. I really like the design so I am considering a 998 as well. I have seen a 998S FE online and I was wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice. It will be my first Ducati and looking at the prices of a low mileage 996/998, a considerable investment as well therefore I would not like to make a mistake. I will be very thankful if someone more than knowledgeable than me gave their opinion on this one. Priced a 19500, seems to be located in Scotland. Mint condition according to pictures, not even 700 miles. I am not sure if I am allowed to post links here, anyway it is quite easy to find on autotrader searching for 998 Ducati. Is it genuine? Considering the prices of a certain dealer in Sheffield, looks reasonable but again I am not sure if it was too much for a 998S FE! Any thoughts? Any helpful advice would be more than welcomed. Thanks everyone in advance. AL
Hi Al, Welcome! Not sure of 998S FE values but I expect the FE will be priced higher that a “standard” S due to it being “limited”. Sounds a lot to me for a non-R type but then I have no idea of 998 prices. Good luck anyway.
It’s top end pricing for a non R but mint & 700 miles probably not far off. Personally. Prefer the looks of the 996 instead of the slabby 998 fairing but they’re still both stunning bikes. Take your time if you’re spending that much & happy hunting
Welcome aboard,Tops £15k large ones in my book and No more, but it's your money at the end of the day.
new to ducati? you best be starting out with a scrambler...scrambler you say? i know where a great one is going cheap....
Welcome to the forum have no clue on pricing but I think it just boils down to what the buyer is prepared to pay good luck in your search
Hello and welcome..... Don’t rush into buying, Do your homework and buy wise. Some nice examples around but for strong money! Haggle to get the best deal When you find the right one, Pie and mash is king
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Regarding the price yes, it seems a bit pricey considering the actual market, I suppose the fact that it has less than 700 miles on the clock and being a limited edition makes it a bit more expensive. You think so? Will it hold value better or is it more collectable? I have been looking at the market for the last month or so but it is quite difficult to find a good example. I have seen one for sale in the UK, it is yellow and not sure if a genuine SPS to be honest. There is a 996R in Sheffield though, more expensive than the 998SFE I was talking about. In terms of holding value and stuff, not seeing this as an investment or anything, but I am not rich therefore money is important. I would consider spending a bit more if the bike has a better resale value. From what I read on the responses, 996SPS or 996R over a 998SFE or 998S? Is it because pure collectability reasons? Or due to technical specs? I believe the 998SFE has the same engine of the 996R, but maybe the fact that it is a non R model makes it less desirable? I am thinking on giving a call to the 998SFE ad, but need to make up my mind, I don't like to annoy people with phone calls if there is no real interest. Decisions...
Sure is. Mirrors are in a padded bag, it’s easier to get the bike through the door for it’s monthly start up.
An informed owner and seller won't mind questions. If it is something with such a low mileage that means someone knows what they have and are likely to be able to answer those questions. Given a good chunk of cash is being asked, I'd rather feel uncomfortable with a question than buy a bike I'm only 50/50 on Good luck on the search
