Well I passed my bike test a week ago and and am now able to ride the 1098s that iv had hidden away for months.I'm 24 And have been brought up riding bikes but all off road so this is my first road bike. I bought the bike off my father with all the work you see done by him,it was a standard bike from Ducati Cardiff a few years ago. This I'd the bike in question.. iv been very lucky to have the bike with all the time/money/effort my father has put in to it. Short spec... Ex rutter c-tech carbon fairings Bsb carbon/foam seat ti acra system dp ally tank pierbon fairing and tail frames Ducati rs rearsets quickshifter billet brembo master cylinder Billet brembo rear caliper two piece rear disc Thumb brake quick action throttle nemesis ecu mag clutch casing speedy top yoke and various other parts and probs loads iv fforgotten lol Iv also got OZ wheels and brembo hpk's on the way( if the discs ever turn up) Anyway why iv posted this.....I just wanted to share my experiences on the bike and let you all know how blown away I am with it.I'm pretty usedd to speed with cars etc but f##k me this is another world,I was obviously aware it was going to be silly fast but building a picture in your head and actually living it are two different things.I was in utter shock first time I twisted that throttle with the aim of going fast!!!! and the noise.......what a awesome sound track. first thing that hit me was the sheer grunt low down. I was trickling along in third gear when I first wanted to test its power and get a feel for it all,it just took off like a rocket from sooo low down in the revs. My father made me aware of this low down grunt with it being a twin but again nothing could have prepared me lol. it's still all very new to me especially the race pattern quickshifter and thumb brake but I'm blown away with it and look forward to very ride and learning from the other experienced riders I have around me. These bikes are something else to look at,Listen to and ride ain't they. I rode a 1199 in the week too and the speed and numbers are there but nowhere near as savage as the 1098,I found it was much more road friendly but it was a standard bike v what you see above. Hope you enjoy my first impression as I'm sure some of you felt the same and enjoy the pictures. Luke.
Cool - I was riding a Katana at your age ! Good to see the next generation getting on some decent machinery :-D Enjoy
Stunning bike but are u aloud to ride it on the road with new license laws I thought everyone had to ride a restricted bike for a while
+1 with all that. Definitely change the clutch cover because even a minor spill will destroy the clutch with what you have over it at the moment. Don't ask me how i know.
Difficult trick to go onwards from there, unlike most of us on here who spent many many years riding every sort of bike from 125cc upwards before getting our dream bike. Just seems like you are missing most of your two wheeled education but getting instant gratification.Just my personal opinion and not a dig of any sort. Lovely bike , ride safe.
Thanks for kind comments guy's.I'm over the moon with everything. had a good ride today as well. insurance is as you'd expect triple figures lol considering the nature of the bike and my inexperience. In regards to it being a track bike, despite it's goodies,no lights etc it's all fully road legal and is fine to ride on the road.very focused and by no means a comfortable hour upon hour rider but that's not the sort of riding we do. also I do have about 15 years of riding done but it's all off road stuff, starting on 80s in the 90s then naturally moving up 125,250,450 etc. it just so happens that iv started my road riding this way.I always think I could get run over tomorrow or something else could happen so I always buy and do the most I can with the money I have and this fitted the bill.life's very short so I try and cram all I can in Falling more and more for the bike with every ride.
"Road legal" is a stretch looking at that bike (officer!)..... it's an awesome bike, but it's clearly a track bike. I thought you needed indicators, numberplate, horn, rear brake light etc even if you didn't have front lights for it to be road legal still, and there is some rule about it the bike was originally with mirrors and lights and you remove them etc......... but this seems to be a grey area. You have presumably put the DP rearsets on there etc to have rear brake lights. I see a miniscule indicator at the back? Just be careful you don't attract too much attention from the boys in blue, as if you get caught riding that (and you WILL be over the limit the whole time almost certainly), the further from legit road spec you are the more grief you are then going to get is the rough rule of thumb...... especially as a young rider. First bike, go careful, but that's an awesome bit of kit. Enjoy and find your limits gradually. Would be hard not to enjoy riding that thing though, it's nice indeed.....
Sorry yes quad figures lol so up over a grand lol I'm used to paying high insurances with the cars. The bike is fully road legal,it has mirrors, rear brake light,Banjo brake switch on thumb master cylinder, road legal tyres etc etc.just has a day time mot. I'm taking it all very slow,iv had a few raised eye brows when people see the bike iv got at such a low age and low amount of experience but iv got a good head on my shoulders and it only goes as fast as I make it.biggest danger is probably other toad users and me being aware at the moment.
