Worrying New Ebay Scam

  1. This isn’t me, I read about it and pasted the story below. It’s happened to a few people now including a couple with a two year old child::(

On Friday evening myself and my fiancée went to pick up a car which we had won the auction on eBay for , I had done all the necessary checks I possible could to make sure that what we had purchased was legit ! Even paid a deposit via PayPal ! Spoke to the seller several times and was in contact with them on WhatsApp
We arrived at the address which was on the v5 reg doc to pick up the car ( this was in Manchester ) , before I had the chance to go ring the doorbell of the address the seller rang us to ask if we had got there and I said yes , and at that point a small white van came screeching round the corner and parked in front of us ! 2 masked men jumped out running towards our car where i confronted 1 and began fighting with him he was shouting at me to give him the money which we had brought for the car ! Whilst this was going on the other guy was shouting at my fiancée to give him the money (she was in our car) he was at that point, holding a gun ! My fiancée panicked as they arrived and locked the doors so he ran round to where I was and pointed the gun in my face ! I stopped struggling with the other guy when I realised I had a gun pointing at me but at that point they just laid into me kicking me in the head until my fiancée opened the car door and the guy with the gun got in and pointed it at her head to give them the money -which she did ! They both then fled in there van leaving us obviously shaken and very shocked , we then called the police and was taken to hospital , after spending 6 hrs in hospital I found out that I had a fractured nose and fractured eye socket and a broken cheek bone which may need surgery ! And my fiancée is obviously very shaken.
I’m not looking for your sympathy just felt the need to share this story , these things really do happen to us normal people out there so please think twice before you pay cash for anything!! Please do share as I hope this will one day help others not to make the same mistakes.

  2. Thats an awful story. The crims know that the police resources are so low that they are unlikely to be caught and punished, with a suspect charged in just 7.8% of crimes recorded in England and Wales in the year to March 2019.

  4. I personally won’t trade with cash anymore unless I know the person. Bank transfer is the only way or walk away!

  5. Certainly worrying but not sure I'd class as a scam. That's armed robbery.

  6. When I was looking for a Tuono a few months ago, I had a big chunk of cash in the house, just in case I bought privately. I eneded up banking it and was going to pay by bank trasnfer if I ended up going down the private route. I've done it before so don't know why I had the cash brain fart. o_O I would always let a seller know I wouldn't be paying cash these days.

I ended up buying from a dealer, so it never came to pass but I'm a lot more wary about carrying cash these days. I can't say my wallet ever has more than £60 in it.
