Semi Active Ohlins suspension

  1. Any update on the full aftermarket system from Ohlins? Front forks and rear shock plus ecu?

  2. Surely this would completely invalidate your warranty if anything went wrong?

    Interesting idea though.

  3. Yes, but it would be a cheaper and better replacement if the OEM one failed out of warranty.

  4. Although I'd be tempted at the price I'd be much happier if Ohlins had come up with a solution to the annoying fork rattle at low speed!

  5. I've got a thought.
Surely the adjusters (operated by the servo<s>) have a limited number of rotations?
Having the ECU (suspension one) whizzing these open and close on the fly will massively exceed the design engineers expectations for the number of adjustments, when compared to manually switching (whilst stationery). I for one have only adjusted them less than a dozen times in 5000 miles. Surely the benefit of the Skyhook is that the damping is done electrostatically, so no moving parts.

Perhaps someone with letters after their name in the Engineering world could comment before I spend £250 to bugger up my suspension, currently working really well.

Has someone done a table with what everyone has theirs set to?

ME: Factory default, Rider plus luggage, 2.7Bar back and front tyres. Rider 19stone naked (sorry if you were eating), probably 21stone in leather /boots etc (now there's an image for you).

    any thoughts?

  6. Why should a Ohlins plug in invalidate a warranty on Ohlins shocks ?? Its not 3rd party....

  12. Thanks for that, im in, ordered one as well. Sounds good VFM imo if its as good as they say?

  13. As someone else said in this thread. I too am skeptical... Those servo gears will be plastic. I am pretty sure they did not have constant adjustments in mind when designing the forks originally.

1 ride will be 100 adjustments, not 1 or 2.

  14. Well freshage, let's see what the pioneer pilots report back with. This is gonna be interesting.

  15. I'm tempted to buy 1 of these, but need to resist as I would like some feedback from others who have. What concerns me is that the Skyhook system is setup that way, however the Ohlins system isn't set up in the same method. Plenty of others have mentioned this, so would be interested to read the comparisons between the the Skyhook and Ohlins setup to see how they compare.

  16. As a service engineer myself (different field though), if a manufacturer creates an OEM add-on the supporting unit must hold up. If those plastic gears go and start grinding teeth then they will have to replace them or do a part modification to metal gears. Example... If Ducati sold a brake upgrade in their catalogue that started their warping pads, they would be liable, as long as the catalogue item didn't state you needed a comparable upgrade to discs.

I'm bikeless at the mo due to theft but will be getting a 2013 S next year. Skyhook is exactly the reason for this. Would be interested to hear the reviews on this though.

  17. I wonder if Ohlins will guarantee their new ecu doesn't f.... Up their suspension?

  18. It woulkd be a bit pointless if they didn't.

  19. So, any good?

  20. Has anyone had theirs delivered yet? Also if you have fitted it, how is the ride and is it improved please?
