12yrs Time Oil/hybrid Banned?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Phil D, Feb 13, 2020.

  1. Being as in my mind, this is simply gormless, unrealistic, ill thought out insanity... I wonder how in a decades time the classic, or not so classic petrol driven Ducati investments will fare, their value and the market upset as being literally an ornament, over ridden active works of art/music..... 30k 1098r etc I fear won't be so attractive.. Comments please? Regards... Phil D

  2. Bikes aren't affected, are they?

  3. Well even if they're not included in the initial traunch I can't see how they won't be included being petrol.... In the overall chase by the tree huggers, climate tribes 'green' is green.. Meanwhile the main polluters crack on regardless.... Wall and writing comes to mind...

  4. Have you worked out your hour glass yet?
Something you actually need to worry about or an intellectual exercise?

  5. 2050 they will still be selling fossil fuels for vehicles in the uk..... who's going to take my bet?

  6. I'd actually take that bet, but won't be here to collect, have plenty to worry about tbh... This isn't one of them, merely asked the question following the latest a Government statement that new pet/diesel/hybrids sales to be banned 2032 ... And thoughts of affect on bikes, classic values especially.. Thanks for yours..won't be posting/subscribing again so less for you to worry about...regards DICK Dastardly ...

  7. It's a good question. I have thought about this a lot, as I pondered buying a white horse at one stage, and have a couple of old "classic - ish" mercs.
Ive been contemplating selling one of the mercs for just this reason. It is only new sales at the moment, so that will take twenty years to filter through.
In summary, I've thought a out it, and haven't a clue.

  9. Making me want to sell my 435, take a bath on cost to clear finance, and use my 911 as a daily for the next 10 years. Won’t be worth anything anyways, as petrol will surely become more scarce if this is the direct, so may as well make the most of it while I can.

  10. Infrastructure not there yet for every house hold to own an electric car. It won't happen in the next 12 years guaranteed. The amount of electricity your use charging your car will cost you more than running a petrol/diesel/hybrid anyway.

  11. Nearer the time I'm going to buy an electric car and fit a trailer with a big generator on the back. Then I can charge a fortune rescuing all the idiots blocking the roads because there batteries are flat cos as sure as eggs are eggs it's going to happen

  12. I’ve thought along these lines recently....

Just imagine all the energy being expended on our roads right now with petrol and diesel driven ICE’s... If you convert it, it’s millions of megawatts.

Energy can only be converted, not destroyed. In other words, the same energy consumption levels will be required with electric cars, trucks, ships or whatever.

Soooo, there’s gonna be a gargantuan grid demand when every fuckers charging their cars. Way way beyond what our current grid set up can handle. You hear on the news every time England make another semi final in football. The grid whinge because everyone’s putting the kettle on at half time and they have to import juice from France because our power stations can’t cope....

Well times that by 100 when all this electrical cars shite gathers momentum. The only way I can see round it is nuclear power stations. And a lot! 50 years away. And I’ll be as dead as fuck.

  13. There is a lot of wastage of energy though: Thermal efficiency of ICE isn’t very good, and most of us have cooked knackers to prove it

  15. It'll simply not happen. Its a short term ploy to appease the green idiots. There is no infrastructure to support it happening and no hope of one being built. It'll just keep being deferred to keep whoever is in power at the time - in power for next time.
They cant even lay a railway line from London to Birmingham on schedule FFS, so what hope of replacing every single fuel station and adding multiple electrical points :D :D

  17. My thoughts exactly, well put too.... Especially for those in high rise flats, terraces etc... Cables routing gonna be ideal....

  18. You only need to take the cables to the car park or have I missed something in your post?

  19. Did you get your question on Starter cables answered?

  20. Another half baked scheme that has little regard for the difference between vehicle users in city areas and more rural areas. Remote areas will need much longer to prepare and massive improvements in technology (range, charging, energy leakage etc)
As usual emissions are just being moved too.
Infrastructure? WILL NOT BE ANYWHERE NEAR IN 12 years.
Power generation? Would need to be HUGE upgrade, that would have consequences for the environment, use of valuable world resources, such as copper (a finite resource btw) for the charging infrastructure.

btw, the copper wire cover typically is covered with a form of pvc. A by product of...oil refining.

A change is coming, no doubt. But one size does not fit all.
