I have decided to retire completely. On the 12th March I will be relocating to Northumberland. Close to Alnmouth and the beautiful beaches in the county. One thing I need to find is a Termi-friendly MOT tester in the Alnwick area. So any recommendations appreciated. I will still be keeping my hand in with the ECU hobby.
Holidayed in Alnwick when I was about 8 can remember much apart from visiting the castle as my big brother was ‘into’ castles
Welcome to the area @chrisw Where in Yorkshire are you relocating from? Good luck in your retirement in one of the best places in the UK. Friendly locals, great scenery, sparsely inhabited, great roads and good value. But Shhhh, keep it quiet.
Used to live in Alnmouth/Boulmer area 1977-1981. Went back there last year for the first time since then - lovely place but the weather can be basically shite! Had an AP50 back then and used to get MOT’s in a tractor/agricultural garage in Red Row, south of Amble. Don’t forget that the pronunciation for the river derived part of the town names changes: The river Aln is pronounced “Alan” Alnwick is “Annick” Alnmouth is “Alanmouth”
Following on from what Ricky says, if you go anywhere near Ashington, you will need a translator. The lingo is utterly indecipherable. Here's the Ashington dictionary. A few of my favourites....... GIRLIE - FEMININE (English) GIRLIE - NETSMAN IN FOOTBALL (Ashington) GURGLES - A NOISE A BABY MAKES (English) GURGLES - EYE PROTECTION FOR A WELDER (Ashington) DIRT - MUCK / FILTH (English) DIRT - SMALL ROUND CIRCLE (Ashington) KURD - ETHNIC GROUP FROM MIDDLE EAST/WESTERN ASIA (English) KURD - A POPULAR FISH TO HAVE WITH CHIPS (Ashington) You get the idea.
Used to go sea fishing up there when I was an apprentice. Can still see my chunder splashing into the sea over the side of the boat, ahh lovely times....
No one seems to go there on their holidays. People talk about the Highlands and Devon and Cornwall etc but no one talks about Northumberland. It’s so sparsely populated with few tourists and great roads makes it an ideal place to go for a bike ride.
