So I am very lazy, and sometimes forget to charge my Gopro, or forget the camera itself, or even to turn it on etc, so I want to install some dash cams for my 1299, one in front and one in the back, but i'm thinking is the one in the back gonna melt , what about the control unit? As anyone installed these before? Should I place the control module next to the battery instead of the cowl?? Thanks
I've no idea how you ride, but it's a 1299! Any pull you get from the law, they will wanna look at your footage. Any time you ride with your mates, (you behind them) you have evidence that could incriminate them. A couple of years ago, a cop caused an accident when they pulled out of a side turning, into a bike, caught on the bikes dash cam. No prosecution for the cop causing the accident, but the Biker had pulled a wheelie, (shock, horror!) half hour previously. What do you think happened with that footage! Surprise, surprise, the biker got nicked. BTW, I have much respect for the police, but this shit is WRONG! If you really MUST have a dash cam, and I understand the reasons, consider a pen shaped one hidden away!
I see, and you do have a point had not thought about that nor did I think the cops did that, my intent was more to prove if something happens an accident etc and I have to prove it was not my fault, as it did when I was driving my car and I didn't have any dash cam, so it was 50/50 in the end. I was thinking in something like the image below, not specifically that brand. That can be hidden away I guess, either that or I just carry on using my helmet cam, but that has the same issue as you stated above. You can always nick the SD card in a second and say "sorry I was moving some files to my PC yesterday and forgot to reinsert the card"
On your head/helmet is the best place, because your a lump of meat that compensates for bumps to keep your vision clear.
I use the Innovv camera system, designed specifically for bikes and the camera is small and bullet shaped which is relatively easy to install and can be hidden from obvious sight - I use the single camera system but they also do a dual version - I chatted to the guys at the NEC bike show and they were helpful and knowledgeable. Yes that's the one I am considering in buying, its also easy to hide, so for the untrained eye no one would know I have a camera. The helmet cam is very obvious, but has some advantages, I guess I would still use the helmet camera, but at least would not need to use it all the time.

I run a 2 camera Nortek system on the GS. Controller is under the seat and comes on automatically when the bike starts. Indicated by a small remote I have on the handle bar. It uses a tiny amount of leccy when bike is off. So run a charger if parked up for more than a few weeks. Make sure the recording unit is at least splash proof and for best results has a high quality recording mode. HD/4K. Mines very much like this one: https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/buy/bike-bro-motorcycle-dual-camera-system/25144.htm
Personally, and it is a choice, I wouldn't attach anything to my motorcycle or MTB helmet - the shape provides the strength as with an egg. If anything is attached and it receives an impact (as when you fall off) it is likely to create a weak point massively reducing the integral strength and the helmet failing (as in Michael Schumacher’s accident?).
