  2. I'll suggest your Highland Park is a nice one, have a bottle myself somewhere :upyeah:
I prefer spiced rum myself (steady...) I've found the dark rums a bit sweet - maybe shouldn't put coke in them

  3. or just man yourself up and get on the gin, mango and PAPAYA!.

  6. The Highland Park is very nice and smooth. The sort of whisky I might give to someone who had never drunk whisky before.
My own preference is for dark rums, especially the navy rums like OVD, Watson's Demerara and Trawler rums, as well as Pussers, Woods and Gosling Black. I never put coke in them but a drop of Crabbies green ginger goes well if I can get it.
I like a few white rums too, especially Wray & Nephews Overproof. It smells of sugar cubes :)
I've tried quite a few spiced rums. Some are very nice others not so good.
Kraken is very good, Sailor Jerry used to be good until they changed the recipe. Dark matter is too gingery for me. Lambs Spiced rum is utterly foul.

  8. Captain Morgans was the spicey variety of choice - about 25 years ago now  I'll maybe revisit - crabbies green ginger, now that brings back memories :upyeah:

  12. Pyrat Rum is one of my favourites.

  13. what an incredible thing to experience, this in no way compares but you've reminded me of a friend who had to standby and watch not only his car being burnt to a crisp but also witness the sight and sound of his many bottles of spirits eventually explode after dashboard catching fire on his way back from abroad/loaded to the gunnels.

  14. Ouch. Like flaming the Christmas pudding!

I managed to find a couple of old prints of the fire which I have scanned in. You might be able to make out the Pussers sign on the frontage. The river in question was just to our left (out of shot). When it went "bang" the police evacuated us to a safe distance which we took to mean the nearest bar. Happy days.

  15. To get this back on track (although I’m going to have to try some rum other than Capt Morgan’s Spiced now) my friends bought me this for my 50th birthday. It was laid down in 1960 then bottled in 2010. I have a little not left which I’m saving for my 60th. I know not if it’s worth anything, or was worth anything as I’ve drunk most of it, and don’t want to know. As said above, Whiskey, or even whisky, is for drinking not looking at.
