Early 748 Front Brake Pipes.

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Birdie, Feb 22, 2020.

  1. Thinking of changing the front brake pipes on my 1998 748 with early 40mm mountings calipers.
My existing pipes go straight into the callipers as shown.

Most aftermarket pipes seem to have banjo fittings on both ends which are fitted to the newer 60mm mounting callipers as shown.

My question is can these banjo fitted pipes be used on my early callipers and has anyone got them or should I just look for similar to the ones I have.

  2. i have galfer brake lines fitted to the 748 and they have a banjo at the calliper end. no problem.. nice shiney stainless banjo and bolt cleans it up nicely.

  3. Not sure if they’ll fit or not, Steve. Maybe call Hel and give them the measurements for your exiting lines.
I did this with all the lines on mine and it was very reasonably priced. I needed to modify one of the brake lines after I modified something, sent it down to Hel and they made the alterations and sent it back FOC.

  4. What year chiz, are your callipers the early 40mm ones.

  5. mines a 99 and 40mm ... same as yours going by your pic.

  6. there is probably a pic on my build thread (if any of it still exists)

  7. Just get um made up with a 90° union on the caliper end.

  8. That was what I was thinking, just interested what others have done.

  9. These are mine on my 99 748 so I guess yours will be the same Chiz, with a 90degree banjo. They could do with a polish though:(
