  1. time to forget him and move on, if he'd bought it he sounds like the type of person who would phone you in the future for more discount on finding some hidden fault that wasn't apparent at time of sale.

  2. It can really sour things, these negotiations. When I bought my 998 privately in Norfolk, the seller couldn't have been nicer and we both couldn't have been more British about it. I told him that the bike was every bit as described, paperwork immaculate etc, and esp since he was talking about throwing in the paddock stand I would certainly meet his asking price, indeed I ought to add some for the stand. No, he said, you've driven a long way, and it would need two tyres pretty soon etc. So we haggled about the price - with me the buyer trying to push the price up, and him the seller trying to drive it down! I think I've always felt more affectionate about the bike because I acquired it on such gentlemanly terms...

  3. Imho I’d get this sorted. It’s just a reason to create doubt that is easily fixed :upyeah:

  4. Yes, I agree.

  5. Well, Full asking price guy did ring and as might be suspected, he is no longer at full asking price.
However we did settle on five grand and he has already sent a ten percent deposit. He says he will do a money transfer in advance of the courier pick up, so all sounds good.
Someone from this forum did emerge yesterday and I would rather sell to someone on here but I would have had to put near full price guy off again and I didn’t want to do that.
A bird in the hand and all that...
He’s happy to wait in the wings though in case something goes wrong again.
    Fingers crossed...

  7. It’s not the people that are the problem. It’s what to do with the bodies afterwards!

  9. OR, you need to make a comprehensive photo record of the bike, all the panels, all the existing blemishes and send the pictures to the buyer if he is buying without seeing it. It also has to be understood as a sold as seen purchase for the money he is paying and the transaction is complete once the vehicle is in the van. One scam some unscrupulous buyers do is claim unseen damage after the fact or that the bike has been damaged in transit and create a stink, claim money back or worse refuse to accept the vehicle, when you get it back it has been robbed of decent bits. There are all sorts of ways of screwing the seller over. For the transfer of funds you need your bank to confirm receipt and clearance of the funds before you agree to provide the bike and have the courier come to you. Have you discussed details for the V5 transfer yet? You will need his details in advance and you can do your part of the transfer online https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle or by mail the old way and remember the tax does not go with the vehicle anymore.

  10. Thanks Denzil, that’s really sound advice.
From his email address, the buyer appears to work for a firm of solicitors, although he doesn’t appear on the list of their solicitors
I’m not entirely sure if that’s a good or a bad thing.
He sounds very plausible but then any self-respecting scammer would.

  13. When I went to buy my M1200 I went to do the bank transfer on my phone but got an error message, so I phoned the bank and was all sorted until she said it would take 3 days for the money to move, the bikes owner said “it’s OK you can take it”, unbelievable!, I said the the girl at the bank no I need the transfer now and she put me through to the bank security team, they agreed to transfer immediately, I couldn’t believe the guy was initially going to let me take it without payment though!

  14. OR when the transfer goes through you can immediately see it appear in your account, obviously if you don’t see the money come into your account you don’t let the bike go.
