Anyone actually had the 1199 on a UK track? Info please!

  1. Evening all,

I'm new to this forum so apologies in advance if this has been asked, I did do a search but didn't get all that much info back.

I'm in the market for a Panigale, I've had my test rides and spoken with the dealer, happy with the bike and the deal.
However I do have an issue with the noise and the related arguments about getting them on track, I'm a big fan of track days and do at least 7-8 each year. I couldn't buy an 1199 knowing I'll never be able to take it around Brands etc.

I know Ducati released a statement to MSV and other track day providers saying it would pass drive by limits and to let it on. Both dealers tell me it's not an issue however having called MSV they tell me they are not at all likely to be let on without passing a static test first. In fact they have a memo telling staff that if a day gets booked and the bike is the 1199 that the customer should be warned and may lose any fees paid if it fails.

I have a DB meter and measured a stock bike in the same way MSV do and it was hitting 108DB, miles off the 105DB maximum limit on most tracks. I spoke with Austin racing about the exhaust system they sell and although it may be possible to get the noise right down, it's not possible without really strangling the bike and losing loads of power and mid range.

    So my real question is:

Has any memebr on here actually had the 1199 on a UK track-day?
If so, which exhaust system are you running please?

I'd really appreciate any help and advice from track riders/owners of the 1199.

    Cheers,

    Matt B

  2. I've seen a few on track, and know a few who run them. Its an education piece as to how its measured I believe, same as the RC8. Why not head down to Brands or your local circuit the next track day, hang around the testing site and wait for one? Amazed if there isnt one turns up

  3. Hi,

I asked the same question NoLimits and they advised that it isnt a problem as the big issue is the drive by which the Panigale passes. I had the same problem with my RC8r which just hit 104db at Snetterton and sneaked through. (on standard cans)

I guess you could ask the track day company yourself as I am in the same boat want to do a track day but dont want to shell out cash and not be allowed on..

Worth checking before you book and I woudl aim for a 104db day rather than a 102db personally

  4. A stock Panigale has to have passed the European standard for emissions which include noise. Several years ago the end can would be stamped with the db level which used to be 82 and is definitely going to be a lot less than the track limits. Unfortunately people who carry out the tests on track days forget that when they position the meter it has to be at 45 degrees to the exhaust outlet not 45 degrees to the bike. I had this conversation on Saturday at one of the Ducati open days and was told that even on BSB days they still get it wrong. The advice you have been given is pretty sound (no pun intended) and if you have the time a visit is a good suggestion. Hope it all goes well and you have great fun. Andy

  5. Use my panigale all the time on track days in the uk . Bike has a full termig system , at most circuits I have to use the baffles but I always get on ( except this week at Oulton , but I forgot the baffles .....doh !. To be fair to the circuit they let me try a drive by but I have to agree the bike will not pass on a 102db day without the db killers in .)

  6. Perfect, thanks for the response all. Just really wanted to hear from actual guys who'd had them on track. Sounds like it shouldnt be a problem to get it on with Termis.
Looks like I can take the plunge then!!

    Cheers

  11. You could try it open then If it fails add baffles.

  12. tx brads... i don't think i'll be much using the last 5 bhp at 12K on my first Uk outing ... :)

  13. I live in Abu Dhabi and I've done two track days at Yas Island and one at Dubai Autodrome. Bring your bike here, the louder the better is the order of the day. What the feck, isn't a race track for loud, scary bikes ?

  14. FWIW : got the EVO + baffles tested at 6k revs and it hit 103! but this was with the mike at 45° angle of the bike so pointed straight at the exhaust... when i rode, there was no issue on a 100db day taken at a bad place as it is done in the straigth with long grandstands reflecting loads of sound... so im pritty confident.. there was no other noise incident with Pani's ...

  15. Did two days at Cadwell Park earlier this week. My bike has a stock exhaust and on the first day the bike passed OK, but on the second day they tested it a 108dB! They then had a think and let me on anyway because "its a Panigale". Most of the testers have no idea where they're supposed to put the microphone when testing the 1199. I've never been turned away in either the UK or France.

  16. did Mettet yesterday and passed at 101 db close to the wall at full throttle .. the exhaust bang on this wall straight up.. even that it was a 96 db day , i passed as the noice itself seemed not to annoy anyone... should be ok !

  17. popped down to Brandshatch today to randomly test my stock bike for noise, tested at 107db, gp circuit is 101db. spoke to some one at ducati uk, they are going to find out with if this will be problem before I book some days. ac

  18. Thinking standard cans failing on a DUK will be a problem. Interesting the termi systems are quieter
