V4 V4s Build - From Start To Finish

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Topolino, Feb 20, 2020.

  1. If anyone is interested, I completed a ground-up rebuild of my wife's Monster 620ie which was subject to the same attention as the V4. Turned out OK, at least I think so for a 17 year old bike.

  2. If you change the file extension to something the forum does accept like .pdf then it should allow you to upload - then anyone downloading it can just change the extension back to xlsx or xls - let us know which.

  3. OK i will give it a try

  4. Or put a Dropbox/OneDrive/iCloud link up.

  5. Fantastic build Rod:blush: off the scale attention to detail that appeals to my very own nature :bucktooth: One thing though that’s got me scratching my head  How come you didn’t go Titanium throughout the complete build? I totally agree with most of the fixings being totally rubbish and in some places not even fit for purpose! I’ve pretty much changed out all mine with grade 5 titanium and even alloy ones for non weight bearing fixings. Even the smallest of bolts, they are visually far more pleasing to look at but most of all half the weight of the OE bolts, in some cases even 1/4 of the weight. You might want to check the clearance on the seat bracket brace once the Seat is installed as the OE ones are quite shallow allowing for it sit to level on its base. Looking forward to some more daily updates :)

  6. Great build as always @Topolino (Rod). Just wondering why you decided on the bonamici rear sets over the Spider 1's? I know you had a change of mind, but wondered what the +'s and minus's were please? Thanks

  7. Dropbox link added. See my previous post.

Thanks Dave. I could have gone down the titanium route but weight was not really my goal. As it is, I'm just shy of 10 stone so it's unlikely I'd feel any real benefit and to be honest the polished stainless steel finish on those most visible of fasteners was more important to me than any potential weight saving. I have already fitted the seat pad and no issues with clearance that I can determine but always good to check these things.

Hi Samieb. It came down to the quality of the parts really, that and clearance issues with the Akrapovic heat shield and the RH rear set. Overall the Spider product was OK-ish but not what I expected for the price. Very little in the way of adjustment, poor quality bolts, cheap and flimsy carbon heel guards and not the best anodising I've seen, so I sold them on and decided on Bonamici instead. I'm still sitting on the fence however and I will see how I feel once they are on, as I am really taken by the Gilles option, which look fantastic, so I might change my mind again!

  8. Since I've already committed to a particular paint scheme that involves a change of bodywork, I am looking to sell the following parts. All are brand new, that is they were removed from the bike the day after delivery and have been bubble wrapped since. All will fit the 2018/2019 V4 or V4S models. Note that the panels will not be supplied with any hardware, ie clips etc as I need to transfer these over to the new bodywork. If you are interested please let me know by PM. I will post up prices shortly in the 'For Sale' section on the forum, until then here is what's on offer. I would prefer to sell them as a complete set, in which case I would be willing to knock £100 off the total price. Postage is not included as this will vary depending on where you are. Collection would be preferable and cheaper.

    OEM nose fairing
    OEM LH mid fairing panel
    OEM RH mid fairing panel
    OEM fuel tank/battery cover
    OEM seat cowl
    OEM LH inner side fairing
    OEM RH inner side fairing

  9. Keep them! You’ll need them for when you put the bike back to OEM before you sell it on and start on the new Ducati V5 next year! :)

    (You heard it here first!)

  10. Hmmm. Not sure they will add to the value much, come resale time and they are taking up valuable space in the house at the moment.

  11. You have a PM

  12. were you not tempted to Ceramic coat the exhaust heat shields? just wondered, I guess the front one is behind the radiator so fairly hidden and the rear has another cover over it but wondered if it would have helped with heat control?

  13. Excellent thread, I can totally identify with this level of OCD.
I'm sure there's some unwritten rule about not asking the next question… but I'll ask it anyway.
What kind of "hobby budget" was required for a project like this?

  14. Replied

I didn't cross my mind is the honest answer Phil. It might have made a small difference around the seat area, where riders tend to experience much of the heat coming from the rear headers but it's double layered as you rightly stated and a lot of the total heat generated emanates from the engine itself as opposed to just the exhaust. I might have to invest in some foil under-garments! :astonished:

Well it's certainly into four figures and will probably (if not already) end up as five. More than that I daren't say. I can counter the cost, to some extent, through my website design company and the online ecommerce parts store but I still keep a rigid eye on the budget nonetheless.

  15. Loving the thread, keep up the good work :)
