Hi folks. I've got a 2017 Multistrada 1200. Got to work this morning and parked up but when I turned the engine off, the steering lock wouldn't lock. The dash was dark (obvs!), but the green "hold to lock" message didn't come up. The bike then wouldn't start even though I held the key close to it. I turned the bike back on by using recovery mode, but it won't lock. It also won't start normally - only via recovery mode. Does anyone have ideas as to what on earth is going on...? Thanks!
Take battery out of fob for 20 mins, put it back in, should work. Just had my fob replaced by Ducati, I now have a reset button but haven't had to use it yet. Strangely the active key won't work as a passive key when it gets in this state. But red key will. 2016 1200 Enduro by the way.
It's one thing I presonally never use, if it was a mechanical steering lock I'd happily use it. But to be potentially stranded due to electronic steering lock 'on' would make me really dissapointed. It's rather good that yours in my humble opinion failed before activating.
Thanks all. I've dismantled my key and will see if that works. If not, I'll be back (not in the Arnie sense!).
Except mine was doing it with a good battery in. Changing the battery didn't fix it, removing the battery for 20 minutes did.
Get in touch with Ducati if you haven't got the reset button in the fob, they should be able to see the update on their system. Mine hasn't disconnected since I got the fob changed a few weeks ago.
I don’t know what “the reset button in the fob” is or looks like. My fob lives in a waterproof jacket pocket in a plastic bag all the time. I hope it’s still there as not used the bike in three months.
Well, leaving the battery out for 20 mins did the trick so thanks folks. I don't know what a reset button is either but now I'm keen to find out
See my picture 2 posts up for the reset button. No idea if it works as my fob hasn't lost contact with the bike since I got the updated fob.
My 2012 has this issue too. I just use the pin code and don't use the steering lock. If it gets stolen, at least the lock won't be forced. Before I found out that it would work off the pin code, I was stranded for a few hours and had to get a van to take me and the bike home
