  1. Evening all, I'm Ben and new on here. Been riding for 13 years and
I'm currently toying with the idea of buying an 848.
Having done the whole Japanese thing for a while, GSXR's, ZX6RR etc, then a couple if years ago for no reason at all I bought an Aprilia tuono, I caught the V-twin bug. Ducati for me has always been unreachable due to running costs but I've read that's come down in recent years and I figured if I can keep a Tuono going without upsetting the money manager (wife) too much then a duke must be much of the same? I hope.

If I've got this all wrong and they are a bugger to keep on the road then I doubt it'll make much difference to me as I REALLY want one and lying to her in doors is easy.

So there we go, any pointers about the bike would be helpful and gladly accepted.

  2. Hello and welcome.
I've tried to write an unbiased review for you a few times but can't, so all i will say is, with a Jap bike you can forget the servicing and maintenance for years and it will generally start and run fine everytime you go to it, i wouldn't try that with a Ducati and expect the same result. But providing you do the maintenance as required and are ready for the odd bill, it'll run forever like anything else.

  3. That's good to know cheers. I'm a marine engineer and spend my days fixing and servicing boat engines so I know the importance of services. I never, ever miss them and do oil changes between services if I think I need them. How much is a standard service on an 848?

  5. welcome to the site

  6. you wont regret it - just buy a loved one (most of them are)

  7. Everyone told me I'd regret the Tuono and they were sooooo wrong, such a fun and exciting bike. I only went for aprilia because the Ducati's were out of reach so they can only be better. My only issue is going back onto a wrist aching race rep but then again, they are so pretty!

  8. Hello and welcome! Can't help with servicing costs for an 848 but I'm just about to have the belts and a service on my ST3 and its going to be £280

  9. Is that all? A the valve service on my Tuono was £500?
