848 2011 848 4k Kph Blown Engine

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Troy Davis, Mar 5, 2020.

  1. Has anyone experienced this? I have a 2011 Ducati 848 evo with 4042 Kph and was riding and then engine knocking. Wasn’t dogging it, was under 6 grand on tachometer? Any info would be greatly appreciated and if anyone is selling a 848 engine let me know. Dealership wants 10 grand for a new one

  2. And welcome Dave.

introduce yourself properly in the newbies section whydoncha :)

PS. You do realise this is a UK based site so buying an engine could be a tad difficult :)

  3. Dude total bummer. I have the same bike. Check on eBay for motors. They are usually around $1200. I am planning on picking one up and having it blueprinted by the Ducshop.

  4. Man, if you were doing 4042 kph (2500mph) its no wonder she gave up. (848's were faster than I thunk)

  5. Ya I know but I’m searching everywhere USA and the UK

  6. Thanks I’ll look into that. I just don’t understand why it dropped a rod like that

  11. its been a rough day if you couldn’t tell. Brain feels fried just like my baby’s engine

  12. What do you mean blueprinted? I’m not that tech savvy when it comes to bikes

  13. Are you the original owner of the bike? That's incredible the bike only has 4k km on it! As for blueprinting, it basically means to make sure the engine components are within the designed specifications to ensure maximum performance and reliability.

  14. put a 1098 1198 motor in it.....

  15. Was your engine on the last train...

  16. What’s your service history like ? Andy

  17. Or even a multi 1200 engine (1198)

  18. Your baby, what did it's mother look like?

  19. Errr, ‘dogging’ has a slightly different meaning in English:confused:.

Really though, that’s unusual and v strange a 4000km engine should should suffer a major failure.

What caused it (apart from you dogging, or not, it)?

    Valve smashed into the piston?
    Small end bearings gone?
    Big end bearings gone?

How do you know what’s happened to it?

and finally, for now, why’s it in Km when, as you say, you have miles in the US?
