For me, that 916 would just need (In priority order): -Rubber brake hoses replaced -Radiators checking over, the oil cooler looks fairly worn and the lower quarter of the water radiator isn't in a great state. -Rear shock spring, and rebuild if it's looking like it's been leaking. -Wheels need reconditioning and perhaps new tyres depending on age. So I guess that's £750 worth of work perhaps, assuming no new radiators needed? I'd definitely would put radiator guards on.
Some parts look they have done well in excess of 11k miles. This bike fir me doesn't add up. I wouldn't go near this one. Be patient for a nice bike at sensible money. People are all getting hung up on early this and racing wheel that. Don't feel in a rush to spend your cash.
I was thinking this, it looks like it's done more like 15-20k miles but couldn't see the original add, that or it's been sat outside at some point during it's life. If the frame joins and welds don't have any corrosion on them at all, but the wheels, shocks etc do I'd be really suspicious.
I'd say the rear shock is the state it is because there's no hugger so it's been fully exposed to all the shit thrown up off the roads. I'm not sure why some think it's done a much higher mileage than quoted - anyway that can be verified through old MOTs
The old mots add up from what I can see so does the storey behind the bike I’m still trying to get prices for transportation
It is usually £150 with people like The Bike Bus - same with Chaz Mortimer but he's a large company so it will be quoted as £150 but will be + VAT so £180 when you get the invoice.
If I was buying it without going down and just getting it collected what is the best way to pay for it?
Have a day out in your van or if necessessary hire one for the day, take with you plenty of straps/board and pay with bank transfer/bacs.this way you get to see it in the flesh and the owner.Have you asked for additional photographs to blow up on PC screen before you are happy & set sail.
This is what I would do. I definitely would not buy without seeing it in the flesh. The ride home then let’s you appraise your purchase. Why wouldn’t you do this???
Bad weather perhaps?,but i collected the 996r in the van from Leeds back in 2017 with no problems....each to their own on this.
