Ditto my tt. Mind. When I had a Yammie warrior and an MT01 (both 1670cc) they still only cost £70 - or whatever a year was a few years back!!
I seem to recall rfl duty being put on fuel was seriously considered by some administration some time ago, (can't remember exactly who or when!!) I do remember however that it was poo-pooed by all the corporate players who whinged that they'd have to pay more than anyone else because they do more mileage (er, yeah) and, so, of course, the idea was subsequently scrapped. Now there's a surprise, same old same old. It won't happen.
Hey, you ain't seen nothing - it's far worse for me as it's sat in my garage next to my sublime carbon 998, and looks all the worse for it
I pay nearly 1k per year for my 2 cars and would really welcome the idea of road duty going on fuel cost. I wouldn't mind but the road surfaces are awful the worst I have ever seen. Don't seem to get anything for the money besides bloody new cycle paths wtf.
my road tax is zilch, it's on the fuel over here , so when I mow my law or fire up the genny to heat my tyre warmers I'm paying for road repairs . But its still cheaper if you own more than one vehicle, although thinking about it you can only use one at a time (two if the missus uses the car )
and the reason that will never happen is the affect on roaad transport/logistics industry, with the result on the price of all the goods we buy and ultimately inflation.
I don't mind paying road tax, and I think the current prices is fair, IMHO. What I don't like, is the fact you have to show a slice a paper everyone can steal, and the fact you can't set up a payment so it just pays automatically, it should then be possible to see electronically, like insurance, if its taxed and MOT'ed. don't bother putting stupid holders on the vehicles on for that... And now ranting and MOT is mentioned, why the heck can't you be warned about MOT is due to run out - keep it running with the tax disc. In this digital age, it would be so bloody simple!
HGV's could tax rebate as part of the business costs for the fuel over and above a certain amount. Just to make things fair.
O Mot- You can pay to have a text sent, £1.50 from memory. I never displayed the tax disc on a bike, always under the seat in a plastic bag. Never had an issue, if challenged I'd list all the times it was stolen when I was younger. The cops never even look for it. Great line from a copper years ago "so wing commander, run way not long enough to get take off". And remember don't steal, the government hates competition.
