Booked a bike in at dealer for its 2nd year service 2 weeks ago.. At the time of booking i told them i only had 2 possible days in the next 6 weeks due to being at work alot and being away. Was told that , just to be sure we would book the furthest date possible for parts to arrive which is this wednesday approaching. Fast forward to today, and i called them to check the belts had arrived, and they havent. (But maybe they arrive tomorrow). Now i understand the dealer is in the hands of the manufactuer, but what would you expect to be done in this situation? Im awaiting a call tomorrow morning to see if they arrive. Not wanting to be awkward but its really messed up my plans as im using this bike for a IOM trip soon plus time away with the mrs and im concerned it wont be done in time. I was told at time of booking that a courtesy bike was £14 plus £10 for something else (ins?) so instead booked a rental car for the day locally. Which i assume i will now be charged for anyway. Is it out of order to now expect them to collect the bike from me and return it without additional cost? I dont want to leave the bike with them for a long period so would want this doing on a 1 day turnaround like we originally arranged. I simply dont think ill have any other time available in the next few weeks to spend all day waiting for it.
Not much you can do, but I'd be asking for a free collection/delivery if they knew the circumstances. Re car hire, you will have a cancellation policy just check it out
Could you not ask them to pick up the bike and drop off in the next couple days than hold them to a day turn around? Would they be able to accommodate that time scale if they forgot to order the parts as could have happened I would give them the option to help out give them a call
There's nowt the dealer can do if the supplier/Ducati don't supply the part. It is an inconvenience for them as much as you.
Thanks for responses. I realise it's not the dealers fault unless they forgot to order the bits. Which I doubt. But was just looking for opinions on how to proceed forward. Didnt want the dealer to have the bike more than a day as that'll mean it staying with them for probably 2 weeks. Not ideal since the better weather is coming and I'm hoping to get out a few nights a week. I've thought of a few options which I'll put forward to the dealer. Hopefully it'll all get sorted. It's just hard when I don't get many days off ( should have 1 a week but tend to miss them and work through)
A dealer without belts in stock ??? Simple answer find another dealer or an independant who carries a basic range of parts in stock
Agreed - never ever had that problem and if I did I'd be wanting to find somewhere else that provided the right level of service. Not acceptable.
as above - don't know which of your two bikes listed is in question here, but I would phone other dealers just to confirm current availability of belts.
totally agree....where are you? If this is the closest dealer within 100 or so miles, and the next one is 100 or so miles more away...I can understand. Now the only other option you have to not have this happen again, is to order the parts your self. You then can set up your service, know it's going to happen, and you have to parts to take with you. JMO.
To be honest i have several dealers locally. The reason its going to this dealer is location, timescale and price. Ive had cheaper quotes but its not worth travelling, and more expensive quotes too. My first choice of service centre was booking to far in advance and was 40% more expensive. Awaiting the call from said dealer now. he said by half 10 he would call.
I took my bike to g tech in leicester and they told me to bring the bike in at 8, and it'll be done by 2. belts, oil, ride height, brake fluids tidying of the loom a complete check over and a few bits and bobs (its a track bike), just as i was tucking into my big mac down the road a bit at about 1 the phone rings and its Jeff green "bikes ready and there's a few things for you to do yourself but nothing drastic. I've made a list for you". I don't understand why it was all up in the air with your dealer? Surely they should be able to get stock of any part next day. I know Jeff keeps a stock of the 'basics'.
