1299 Exhaust Valve

  1. Iv got a 2016 1299 , and when riding, it splutters and missfires Untill It gets up to temperature about 80 then it’s fine , took a look at the exhaust valve only to notice when I turn the ignition on it only moves a small amount and also noticed there are 2 locator holes for the cable , I removed the cable and valve moves as it should so moved the cable to the other hole and now bike runs a treat .

Seems like it had a aftermarket exhaust system on it at some point and was removed before being traded in , I brought it off a guy privately and he only done a few hundred miles on it and he said it has to be very warm before it can be riden , looks like the exhaust valve was fitted incorrectly.

  2. Posted a picture to see if anyone can shed some light

  3. you have some missing clips there - i’ll find you a picture.

to be honest you would be better off just disconnecting the cable and removing the whole servo motor - lots of info available on here why.

  4. I disconnected the cable from the butter fly and it thru up a error

  5. I take it that the spring holds it open .

  6. Because the servo is not getting any resistance from the spring. You have to frig it such that the servo still thinks it's connected. As said above there's a few threads on here on how to frig it or you can simply buy a DUC-EE from Vizi-Tech in the USA.

  7. Yes the spring holds it open - the engine warning light will come on and if you google Exhaust Servo Eliminator you can buy a device that plugs into the connector that powers the servo to het rid of it.

However some people say the light goes away anyway after several cycles of stops and starts.

  8. These are the clips you are missing - looking at your picture the cable is only being held in place because the bracket has been squeezed to pinch it. The reason the bike runs better now you have moved the position is that the valve is allowed to stay open more in that position.

My advice would be to remove the whole thing - it’s only there to control noise anyway - then run it for a bit - go through some normal stop start cycles - and see if the engine light goes out. The after that get a Sprint filter, and then a Rapidbike or a remap.
