1098s fuel consumption

  1. its bloody terrible:mad:
Had a good run yesterday first fill 81miles,second 74miles,third 64 miles took about fifteen quid each fill
Tottally bollocks in my eyes wast even going hard, just cruising with my rookie mate on his gsxr

i love this bike only had it since march but the fuel usage is making me doubt this fine machine I do a fair bit miles 500 miles on a saturday is usuall its standard was planning on new cans and all the gubbings but having serious doubts now

is it just me who feels this way:frown::frown::frown:

  2. That does sound excessive. I can't remember the exact figures, but I get well over 100 miles with mine. It has Termi's and a power commander fitted too.

  3. Bang on 80 miles every tank to the light then 20 miles in reserve and not a drop more (found out the hard way) Bazzaz, filter, termi's... Nowt changes it, just learned to live with it. Much to mates amusement but it can get a bit annoying spending every ride planning the next fuel stop and playing roulette as to if you'll make it. There is a bigger 'endurance' tank out there but it's at a stupid cost for something which in my opinion the road bike should have had as standard.

  4. Pretty much 80 miles before the light comes on here as well. No idea what the reserve is because i dive straight into the next petrol station. Mine has a full 70mm Termi system and does the same MPG as the standard system. For a sports bike, it's not that bad. A mate has a Fireblade and on a "spirited" ride only gets a bit more out of his than i do. The bike is such good fun to ride, i really don't care what it does to the gallon.

  5. Same for me 80 miles then on the light comes  I have a full 70mm termis fitted so no difference there .

  6. My 1198 gives similar mileage between fills. On a trip from Plymouth to Castle Coombe I had a five stop strategy, my smug mate three for the same 350 miles. I just live with it, like I live with the 'amusing' comments about it. I reckon they are just jealous!

  7. between 60 and 75 miles and then the tank takes about 11.5 lts.

  8. Learn to drive it properly.......... they're nowhere near as bad as that.

  9. 75-80 before the light is on then another 20 easy. 100 miles then around 12 litres to fill but its a 15 litre tank so still a little more in there. Check the next time you fill how many litres rather than cost. Oh and mines an 1198 on just end cans and I dont ride it that hard on the road. Not particularly thirsty but just a smaller tank than a blade/R1 etc. I used to get between 120-150 miles before needing to fill on the R1 but again these have an 18 litre tank so approx another gallon so around 30-40 miles extra which is about the difference between a Duke and an IL4

  10. I seem to be the exception. I must ride like a girl

  11. Should have bought an 1198SP then

  12. If you're only putting in about £15 worth then you're not running it low enough  I normally get around 85-90 miles and expect to put in £18-20. Got 99.9 miles once riding like a saint, jeez it was boring, never again.

  13. I get 100 to the light comes on and have managed to get 123 miles once without it running dry. I ride quite vigorusley to say the least. Can not understand how there seems to be such a big difference in mileage

  14. thhanks for all the replies guys ,think in need a bigger tank lol.

And as for learning to drive my bike ,i dont drive my bike i ride it !!!!

  15. Stick a 5l fuel canister full on the back, run it til dry riding normally, them you'll know. My 848 comes on at 70 ish now, used to be closer to 90, but at 100 miles still only puts in about 11l so got a couple in hand. That was y'day and A34 reasonable speed to get home so cruising but would be pulling some fuel

  16. Good simple idea on the fuel cannister strapped to the back. Only need to do it once and gives you the chance to really see what miles your bike can do. Beats riding up and down the road between petrol stations which is what i did when i fitted a secondhand low fuel level sensor on my monster, wondering if it worked or not!
Btw, 100 miles on 12litres(£15 as someone said) is almost 38mpg so not bad. I used to get 36mpg from my Fireblade however i rode it.

  17. im getting as low as 28mpg

  18. I get 8 miles for every litre in the tank give or take

80 before the light comes on
I understand the reserve is 5.5 litres so I reckon I have 40miles making a full tank range of 120 miles

    1198s with full termi system

  19. OK, to help - you drive the ENGINE................

Big V's need a different take on how to utilize the torque/horsepower out put.

Poor fuel consumption on these is always due to the inability of the rider to pick out the optimum revs for best performance or economy.......depends what you want really.

Do some reading on power characteristics of v twins and check out some power/torque curves and relate these to your riding style.

Approximately, use less revs and use the torque to drive it faster over all. It's NOT an in line four..................

  20. I easily get 110 miles to the light, and once got 138 before fuelling. That one was a planned longer trip and I knew I was pushing the range, but made it. I run cored (straight through) cans - it got more before I did that :) I am as fast as most anybody too.
