Another St4s Immoblizer Issue

  1. There was on this one, someone had installed it am guessing because she's an import from Italy so it's hotter there? Who knows. Either way it's been removed

  2. The switch was probably added on. The fan function of the ECU sometimes failed. Mine did. The switch should simply provide a ground for the relay to switch the fan on manually.

  3. 50£ seems cheap so you aren’t going to lose much money but it’s still a used one and as such carries a risk it too has problems. Taking into account the time it’ll take to remove the existing one and replace with another, if it were me I’d rather work on tracing and fixing any faults in my pre-existing loom, you’re in there at the coal face anyway to get it out and off the bike.

  4. any idea where I can find the plug thats used to plug into the solenoid? or do I just grind down a normally two pin plug to fit?

  5. My Google-fu isn't bad, but it was only something simple like "Ducati Starter Solenoid Connector White".
There were quite a few links to threads on this site, one of which had the P/N in (00056803). The Stein-Dinse link was the first one with a picture, but Googling the P/N shows others - make sure it's the right thing before you order.
Alternatively, I'm sure the gentleman on Parts at Moto Rapido would know it off the top of his head - I've seen they're serving parts requests online.

  6. Fair enough I tried something similiar but didn't seem to get anything out of it. I've got a dealership near me tbh. Literally 20 min ride away. But am guessing with this lockdown itll be hard get anything.

I was gonna order 3 off the Stein-Dinse link but with all the metal bits it came to 20quid. Seems outrageous for something so small :p Also there was an under 15 euro fee.

I tried to remove the rear brake caliper like months ago and basically destroyed one bolt. it was stuck there with no luck. I get back from a ride yesterday and it had somehow loosened itself since it was seized for so long. Replacements we're pretty expensive for what it was. So I went down to screw fix, got a 50 pack for a fiver. But they were slightly too long and hit the discs. One thick washer later and we are in business.

  7. the saga never ends gentlemen. my ecu has died, ordered a replacement 5AM instead of the 59M that comes with that. I'll be able to use the map from the 2005 st4s which supposedly gains some more powaaa.

the only thing about the jerking above, supposedly the ST4S just has a flat spot around 3900rpm. Something to do with the barometer so handy to know the bike isn't broken

theres a suspension guy literally 10 min walk away from me, so am going to take the duc to him to service it all because I assume it hasnt been done in 19 years.

  8. I don’t think the 5AM will work with your bike. Ducati fitted a digital dash to the ST4S and added canbus.

  9. I thought that at first as well. Hmm well if am screwed I'll find out the hard way when it turns up. What year did they first add the digital dash and canbus?

edit: this guy managed to do it on a 2003 https://www.ducati.ms/threads/2003-st4s-planning-to-install-a-5am-ecu.687521/

so hopefully they added canbus and digital dash at the 2004 iteration

edit: another edit wikipedia says 2004, lets hope there right otherwise its another £150quid down the drain.

although a question, if my TPS is mechanical and I flash this new 5am firmware, will it need recalibrating?

  10. Read the thread. Looks like his bike is running but the ECU is not getting all the sensor data because of the canbus issue.

The digital dash was fitted around 2005.

Re the TPS, I do not know if they switched to the linear TPS on the later bikes. I don’t think it will be an issue you will need to manually set the TPS.

Try it and see if it works.

    TuneECU have maps https://tuneecu.net/Ducati_Tune_list.html

It is android based and requires a USB lead not Bluetooth.

  11. If it's any help, the 2005 ST4s used the 59AM ECU with canbus between the ECU and the dash
It didn't make any more power. In 2005 Ducati changed the way in which the hp was measure to bring them in line with other manufacturers. This made most of their bikes appear to be more powerful. The ST4s magically went from 115bhp to 120bhp.

  12. tbf last time I had this bike dynoed it did 122bhp at the rear wheel. how accurate the dyno was is another story though

  13. What died on the ECU? Like totally dead or something not working?

  14. fuel pump wont prime at all. but if i short circuit the relays it primes forever haha. plus i cant connect to the ecu with any diag software

edit: sorry for the late reply btw, the Range Rover was taking up all my other time.

  15. At the risk of sound like an engineering jobsworth, I would be wary of replacing brake system bolts with generic bolts. Any fixing involved in handling the forces of braking is part of a homologated system, and should only use direct replacements of same design and material spec, or specifically designed upgrades such as Ti.
