Is it just me that thinks unscrupulous sellers may use the current situation to their advantage i.e. knowing that close up inspections are nigh on impossible so a lengthy description and a few choice pics they get their bike sold and when it arrives it’s not quite as good as you’d thought? Hasn’t happened to me (yet) and I’ve bought a good few bikes ‘long distance’ in the past but I’m definitely a bit more wary at the moment. That plus I’m tempted to hold out a couple more months and see how the market is holding up.
I was just thinking the same myself. Too early to tell what affect it’s going to have. There may be genuine bargains to be had but they reckon by Easter we should have hit the peak so who knows?
There will be some real bargins in the next year, but think classic car & bike market may never really recover fully. The financial shite storm is going to be biblical.
What's the consensus on the 916? Looks like good value to me, I'm tempted -- Dublin based though so would be buying unseen... Obviously you're taking a bit of a risk but I mean... what's the worst that could happen
The chap selling it is this guy https://www.facebook.com/pg/Murraysclassics-110525170285868/posts/ Jez Murray He isn’t a con merchant as far as I can tell (aside from being a bike dealer) He had an ex trioptions 959 up for sale a while ago - he had bought it on ebay for a song and flipped it for a profit - I was too slow so missed it - but then ran into the guy that bought it at Cadwell in March - he seemed happy. I know nothing about the value of these older bikes but it does seem cheap!
It will be interesting to see how the Yorkshire specialists vehicles adapt to the market place on pricing in the coming months.
Personally, I dislike the yellow anodised tat that a previous owner has lovingly added. It’s also difficult to tell from from the pictures but the frame colour doesn’t look right. If it were me, I’d remove the lithium battery or update the regulator/rectifier, in the event of a reg/rec failure on a bike of that age, the old and the modern are not compatible. Andy
I’d go for it (if I could get it past SWMBO) IMO it’s a bargain. @Android853sp whats up with the frame colour, looks right to me for a 97 model, bronze gold.
It could just be the picture but to me the colour looks too yellow. To my eye, the wheels have definitely been refurbished as well. I certainly don’t remember wheels being that gloss finish. It’s no matter, if the bike is being bought to be ridden, definitely a bargain but if it’s being bought in the hope it’s going to appreciate in value, it needs too much chucking at it. As it says in the listing, can’t guarantee the panels are age correct. Andy
