749 Front Brake Light

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Felix749996, Apr 4, 2020.

  1. Hey guys, not long picked up a 749s as a non runner, pretty much done now just waiting on a fuel pressure regulator to turn up, however
Just checking all the lights/ switches work I’ve found the brake light isn’t working for the front brake(rear is fine)
I’ve checked the switch and it is making, but no power to it. Does it run of a separate fuse to the rear or is there something that I don’t know about?
    Any help appreciate

  2. Front brake light fuse is on same circuit as the starter, IIRC. 20Amp, I think.

  3. Can’t be the fuse then, all the Other lights work an it will turn over,

  4. Are you certain the micro-switch is functional? Cables properly connected to the switch? I've had mine work lose in the past.

  5. I’ve tested it, it functions correctly. The bullet connections were well fitted, but didn’t have power at either one, is there another connection further down when it gets into the loom?

  6. Must be.

If the starter circuit works and the brake light works on the rear pedal, there must be a break in the cables. Do you have a circuit diagram, assuming your loom it is unmodded?

  7. I’ve got one but it’s very unclear an I can’t see the details on connections, just one I downloaded

  8. Sorry, yesterday it is a standard loom

  9. Hmm.

  10. Gotta love wiring, an thinking it could be a broken cable too:thinkingface:

  11. Looking for a diagram on line from the owner's manual. Unless this is the diagram you already have?

  12. Hi Felix, does the horn and pass button work? Also the microswitch for the front brake connects to the loom in that bundle just below the RH steering damper mount (two bullet connector IIRC) to the rear of the headstock tube

  13. Yeah it’s the one I have but that’s better quality, can see what things are.
    Cheers

  14. Good point about the horn.

That may help you pin down where the break is, if that's what it is.

  15. Yeah the horn works along with everything else, just front brake light.
I’ve separated the bullet connectors but have no voltage at either one on the loom side

  16. Looking at the wiring diagram you should have a violet, which comes from the fuse and a violet and black

  17. Don’t suppose you have a pic of the wiring diagram or a plan or the route it takes on the bike

  18. This is from the 999 manual A453E104-81CF-42AE-B6CF-97398522E13C.png A453E104-81CF-42AE-B6CF-97398522E13C.png D1421499-197E-41F0-A313-EB017809F3E3.png 062ED404-3C3A-4467-93D3-9AD63B7703C8.png
