Yeah i saw that but i can't see they had the money or expertise to design a racing engine in such a short time from new? Given their other engines they used were copies of proven design by other manufacturers.
Can't find any other info regarding he copied or used another engine - it states designed and manufactured by Suter I know what you are saying though
There’s been one on display in sportsbikeshop for a while now. An interview with foggy gives his opinion on the engine https://mag.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/ne...ated-each-other-now-they-go-cycling-together/ “The bike is iconic now. It’s frustrating that Petronas didn’t really listen to us when it came to the engine and went with a bloke who’d never really built one before, which was strange. I still don’t understand why that happened. “The only bit of the whole project I didn’t have any say in was the engine, which is the most important part of the motorcycle. “The engine system was fundamentally designed and built wrongly. The cooling system was really bad so it wouldn’t cool down and it had oil leaks all the time. “If they’d listened to us with the engine and gone to someone with engine experience then I think it would have been a lot more successful.
Doing some research and given who would have supplied or allowed using their engine whether it be a copy under licence, leads me to only one manufacturer who would allow them that being MV, bore and stroke is very close to the Foggy spec.
It was developed by super, but they really struggled to get any reliability form it. The relationship broke down when foggy and bosworth etc started loosing their patience and Ricardo were bought in to try and help, now... these boys know their onions and the majority of the improvements came from them, better cooling, some reliability improvements and by the very end, even though the engine life was very very short they were finishing races without locking up or setting fire to the riders.... it wasn’t based on a triumph or MV as it had backwards slanted cylinders (the back half of a v6 really) and a cylinder head designed for pneumatic valves. google images of the fp1, there are some of James Haydon where the seat unit is on fire under his crotch!
I remember watching the DVD when the team first started , they had a few engine problems, massive flames use to come out the back of the exhaust from unburnt fuel that also looked like oil ( black smoke )
