Omega X33 its a reimagined Speedmaster and apparently the watch used currently by astronauts. Form what I've read when going into space they get the choice of that or the convential mechanical Speedmaster and most of them opt for the X-33
Just had a quick look on eBay, thinking they may be reasonable, being a quartz. The 1st one I saw was £3k. I stopped looking.
I only have a couple of cheapies, but I like them, got the Monaco in January whilst on holiday it the canaries, paid £k for it, just seen tag have had a price increase now retailing for £1795, happy with that.
Yup they are not cheap, but if you look at Brietling's Aerospace a similar sort of concept, they start at 3k+ and yet don't contain a lot of the X33's functionality I've had the old equivalent of the Breitling Aerospace (then called the Navitimer) for 30 years plus it's been a good watch although around every 15 years it goes back to Breitling for a "service" returns with a new movement in it. When my wife bought it for me it was £500 and that was the Ti version with the UTC (another little watch on the side). I used to work on power stations engines all over and the watch was always the only one I used (it took a hammering over the years), it was rare for it to be off my wrist. Its stood the abuse remarkably well. I just like these analogue/digital combos, obviously not an investment as I wouldn't think anything containing a quartz movement is. I don't have a collection, only one more upmarket brand watch (if you'd call Omega and Breitling upmarket, its all relative I suppose)
Been on the waiting list for this since March. Ive had a nuts week, got promoted at work yesterday, then wandered into the AD today (for the first time! All previous correspondence was done via email due to the virus) and ended up being offered one?! Usually its a lot longer wait. Skint dot com.
Nice mate and congratulations on promotion. I have been on the list in my local for nearly 2 years for same with date!!! Think they have forgotten me and, TBH, I’ve spent the money on another bike and have given up chasing them. I reckon you got lucky through COVID?
Yeah mate I don't blame you that's a sensible alternative. The way they've come down on the grey due to covid I was this close to just buying second hand anyway. I reckon so, although this was one of the few dealers that didn't take any deposits when the lockdown was on and still had stock in from before, also I did nag the hell out of them and keep in touch. Christ this and a new 765rs within like 2 weeks I'm terrified to check what I've got left after the Amex clears.
Aye mate I'll next get rid of this, just hopefully add to it when I can afford to. Batgirl next hopefully. Gonna wander in at the end of summer buy mother some jewelry and ask to get on the list I reckon. Tbf mate I could wear this to go gardening with for a year and still get minimum £1300 quid more than what I paid for it on the grey market. Yes the keeping of value is a nice addition and of course is a main attraction for me but it really is pointless as I'll never sell it. Lovely expensive watch but not flashy at all only people in the know will know if you know what I mean and that's what I want.
A mate of mine is a watch dealer. I’ve never shown much interest to be honest but recently asked if he’s got anything interesting for under a £1k and he sent me this 1960s Omega just to try out. I rather like it...
