999 999r Carbon Fairing Padding

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by yev, Apr 11, 2020.

  1. Pulled out my 999 out today and took her apart for prepping for summer wash.
On inside of my carbon fairing there is some sort of soft padding which was covered in mould. I gave it a gentle wash and one of them just fallen apart. Can they be bought as a spare? Anyone knows?
Do I actually need them? Are they some sort of heat protectors? Do I need to bother replacing them?

  2. Just use some heat reflective tape.

  3. It's the same part as the plastic fairings. You can still order a replacement from your local dealer.

Or as @cookster suggested use some reflective tape to reduce the heat. It won't, however, reduce engine noise.

  4. Thanks. So would I be best to pull them off now and throw away that we then trying to dry them? They probs will not come out well after being soaked?
So just to confirm- original soft padding is sound and heat reducer? So worth having?

Wonder how much they charge for them!

  5. Ducati Omaha site lists them with part numbers.

Try typing the part numbers in for a rough idea of how much they will cost. Not sure if they will still be available though.

  6. It's sound proofing. No big loss but as suggested, I would definitely put some aluminium heat proof tape in its stead. Andy

  7. Yes. Only listed the main panel L & R. My error. But still pretty cheap if you want to stay OE, which I personally would on this bike.

  8. I know what you mean - but we buy in similar pre-formed items for JLR applications and they cost less than £2.00 for larger ones :joy: it's not pretty cheap, it's fuckin' scandless o_O

  9. Of course it is. Bit like a screen screw and well nut for c£7.
On my R I go for Oe. On the 996, I don’t have the same need/desire/want.

  10. Don’t 999R’s have carbon belt covers?

  11. Don't know about the later ones, but the earlier ones didn't

Mine has but not all do. Luck of the draw with Ducati of that period I would guess!

  13. Or retro fitted :)

  14. Could be (like the swingarm I guess), or option at time of order. Either way, looks great!

  15. Even the Black Swing Arm was an optional extra in 2003 :)

  16. That was definitely dealer fit on mine as the dealership sent me the silver one along with a heap of other parts a couple of months after I bought the bike!
