quickshifter for a 996 advice/wanted

  1. ok, i am after a quickshifter for my 996 and have come across a few options, some are out of the question due to ridiculous pricing, but translogic do one that is like a damper that fits to the lever, has anyone got one of these on there bike, any experience with this kind of shifter?
i should mention that i run race shift and want just the lever type as people i have spoke to (tuners and racers) advise against doing it with the linkage and advise against doing it through the power commander and getting the sort that cuts the coils.
some people say don't use them, others used them with no problems. i just love them and have run them on every race bike of mine for the last 10 years or so.
    any advice much appreciated.

  2. i read this thread, but again, no one mentions the translogic damper type shifter, my question is has anyone any experience with this shifter?
i mention about talking to tuners etc as i did a similar post on another website and got a boat load of replies just saying 'i wouldn't bother mate they wreck the gearbox'
i also mention i run race shift as i don't want to run the linkage.
my post is a little more specific and personnel to me rather than the other post which is a generalisation, and not specific to me or my question.
Quick Shift: Translogic Motorcycle Quickshifter Systems
the one i'm enquiring about here is the LS system

  3. i should also metion that i bought and received a hm lever type (ducati plus) and loom, which i was told would just plug and play to my bike, only to have a different loom (3 pin instead of 2 pin) and then be told " er, no, sorry, no, we don't actually make a loom for your bike" so am now in the process of a refund.

  4. I have the HM strain gauge type race apttern on the 853R. Its fitted via PCIII and I am tyring to figure out why your loom is different. Never had a problem myself. However, I know of problems on 1098R's(gear selector forks . And also I have had reports of failed HM units (multiple) in BSB. The newer translogic units look well made, and they seem to work on 1098R's..............

  5. the loom on the bike is a standard 996 loom and all early looms (pre 2001) have the 2 wire coils on (apparently). although my bike is a bit of a bitza bike. 748 frame with 996 engine, twin injectors with only one injector plugged in. i have had it all set up by mark at bsd in eye and he says its fine and the power graph looks good although only making 107bhp. but its only a track bike to have fun on, but just want to get the bits i like on it.
i think a lot of what i have heard is scare mongering/bad experiences that have been blown out of proportion.
sarah jordan is the best person i have spoke to. she raced a 748 with a hm lever wired into the pcIII and said it was lovely and never had a problem with it. very expensive unit though and have also recently heard of a few 'failures' at all sorts of levels.

  6. i've bit the bullet and ordered one of these bad boys. the uk supplier, a supermoto guy called daz, seems a really nice fella and was very helpful, so i thought sod it!
    Moto - KIT DUCATI - 916-996-998
looks like it is simple enough to fit and suits my needs/wants
