Battery life

  1. If looked after on an Optimate trickle charger how long would you expect (in years) to get out of a gel battery on a Monster 696?

  2. Several

  3. If you have a top spec optimate, at least ten.

  4. I've owned my MV Agusta for 7 years now and I'm still using the battery it came with (I don't know how old it was when I got the bike). It's always been connected to an Optimate.

  5. Can't comment for a monster but after 3 years of ownership the battery on my 748 is toast. Had it unplugged from the optimate for a couple of days whilst cleaning and bleeding the brakes, not enough go left in it to crank the bike over, only 11.2 volts [IMG].
Took the battery out - eh! Original Ducati item - can it be 10yrs old?[IMG] No record of it being changed in any prior ownership so it could be.
So just ordered replacement for 37 quid here > YT12B-BS Motorcycle Battery YT12B-4

Anyone had a battery last that long?

  6. I dont suppose Anyone knows where I might pick up a 750ss battery on a Sunday in the West Country?

  7. What is it with batteries these days?

I have not long ago sold my Nissan 200SX with 160K miles on the clock, still on its original battery.

My Guzzi which I bought in 1980 and sold after 8 - 9 years had the same battery in it for almost that amount of time.........I only changed it because it looked 'orrible......one of those black tar things.

My SS has got the same battery I bought it with 3.5 years ago and it must have been at least two years old when I got it........I have charged it twice and topped it up twice.

All of the above are conventional lead acid batterys and I don't use an Opitmate.

  8. Have I bought a rubbish battery ? Hmm. be interesting to see how long it lasts then.

  9. Are Gel batteries really that much better than the old lead acid ones, or is it just a marketing myth?

  10. Yes,I agreed that Gel batteries really that much better than the old lead acid ones. Thanks for nice stuff.
