  7. your the 2nd person i know who has had an af1 50 replica, other than myself, where did you buy it, and can you remember the price?
    i loved that bike

  8. A lad at my school bought it in 93 brand new for £2350, at the time a ar50 was about 1100 from memory so these were pricey bikes and mega rare even back then.
He did 600 miles on it and ran in to the back of a car and stuck in the garage for a year.
I didn’t really know him, but searched his phone number and rang on the off chance he still had it and he did.

it had broken mirror, broken headlight, bent forks and snapped brake lever.

We did a deal for £600 and I fixed it up. That was 1995, I was 14 when I bought it and did it up so it was ready and waiting for me for my 16th birthday!
I pushed it 3 miles for its MOT the week before my 16th as my CBT was booked for the morning and I had literally been waiting 2 years for that day to come!

Ran it for a year till I got my 125 and sold it for £1250

lad and his dad came up from Essex to buy it, I’m up in warrington. He had been searching for a year for one, no haggling just completely stoked he had found one!

  9. Thats a great story. Funny how the italian bug grabs you once youve had one.
I couldnt stand the look of the rd50, so I bought an RD80LC in bits, and built it with a RD50 engine and registered it as a 50. Put a 65 kit on it and micron. Good fun but broke down every time it rained.
I saw an Aprilia AF1 50 in Harrogate, Stivanos was the dealer, and I had to have one, a good apprenticeship with BR meant I could afford the repayments. £2200 on the road, and £1100 interest, meant £95 per month, a weeks wage in 1990.

It did 29mph until I pulled the washer out the exhaust on the second day of ownership, then it did a genuine 65mph, 70 with a tail wind.
I raced 125s, and some thought it was a 125. However it broke down every time it rained until we moved the coil down away from the frame.

Very happy days, led to 125 and 250 Aprilias and now the big ones :upyeah:

  10. Yep I can vouch for that, over 100kph all the time.

I did my provisional CBT on it and I remember sticking to the speed limit. My instructor behind me said come on I know it can do more than 30 let’s go, go, do. So I dropped a cog and nailed it through to 60. Was on a 40 road so he roasted me, but then said he had no idea a 50 was even capable of that! We had a good laugh about that.

I’ve been on the lookout for one for years, I’d love to stick one in the back of the garage.

had so many two strokes since, Aprilia 250s, rgvs, rds, nsr250s, tzr250s, Rg/rd500s, ns400 etc etc. Miss them, but the element of what made them good had now been lost with them by making them so ‘precious’.
Used to love thrashing the life out of them and cheapness of bits. Try running that mentality with an RG500 or nsr250 these days!

  11. Why thank you sir...thinking ahead...

Funny when that was taken a few of us were waiting for my mate to get ready....(thats his old mans car, at the time). His bedroom was in the front above the front door...he came out got on his bike and before he started it i said "oi....youve left your stereo on blaring..." he said "yeah fucking good innit..." and fucked off...made me laugh at the time and still makes me laugh now thinking about it....
