Ducati EverRed warranty program ending 31/3/2012

  1. Thanks for this, I paid for my upgrade (2nd owner) and signed the form, now the dealer is backtracking...
     
  2. Sorry to hear that. But what do you mean by backtracking? What is the scenario?

    * If the dealer is denying that you paid the £300, presumably you are in a position to prove conclusively that you did pay.
    * If he accepts that you paid the £300, what does he say it was for? Surely he cannot argue that £300 was in exchange for nothing at all!
    * If he is saying that you paid the fee and the form was duly completed, but that either the dealer or the Ducati factory have failed to action the paperwork properly, well that is their error and their problem not yours.
    * If he is saying that your extended warranty date does not appear in the database, then it is up to him to take action to make sure it does.
    * If he both refuses to provide any cover and refuses to return your £300, that is very sharp practice indeed. I fear that scenario would be getting close to fraud.
    * If he is saying your mechanical failure [what is it, by the way?] is not covered by warranty, e.g. because it is wear and tear or crash damage - well that is a rather different kind is dispute. You would have to argue that one on its merits.

    It would be interesting to hear what the facts are in your case (if you are prepared to disclose them), and how you get on.

  3. for the record, I only got my flimsy bit of paper, have not received any offical ducati notification.

  4. This is the scenario, I paid the money, signed the form and the service manager said he would submit the paperwork later when it was quieter and he had time to concentrate. I took up the offer early (just 1 year old) to try and beat any increase in costs or decline in offering.
    Dealers reply

    "Sorry Chris, have to be honest I have been trying none to successfully to get Ducati to extend your warranty, if you want I will refund the money for the time being till I get a definite answer from them."

    They are saying they had issues submitting the forms and have now discovered that Ducati do not "normally" offer the extension to second owners. I'm telling him to persist with Ducati as once I take the money back I suspect it will never happen.
    PS If anyone has a good contact at Ducati I could approach about this it would be good to know and I can apply a little additional pressure.

    ....and I know for a fact that second owners can get the extended Warranty (which has to be applied for before the 18 month anniversary of first registration/sale) BUT the second owner has to have bought from a Ducati Dealer i.e. you're excluded if you buy private or from a non Ducati bike shop. On some occasions owners have had to approach the original selling Dealer to arrange the extend cover.

  7. Thanks Andy - It was bought from an official Ducati dealer, however it was a commission sale rather than dealer stock. Hopefully this will still count in my favour.

    If I have a lot of trouble then I will drop Tim an email.
     
  8. Andy, I was told point blank I could not have the 3rd year warranty by the Ducati dealer I bought from (ex demo model) and it wuld be really helpful to me to be able to site an example of how I can get it, are you able to shed any more light on how to go about it?

My comment is based on discussions on multistrada.net and/or ducati.ms and a couple of email conversations a while ago, nothing official in writing from Ducati e.g. T&C but actual experiences of other owners. I think a not uncommon issue here is that some Dealers really don't know their facts and don't put the effort in to finding out the correct terms plus a more recent factor could be the rumours re changes to the Ever Red cover (again no facts).
    Tim / LeNoir..........if I were you I would phone visit your Dealer again to speak to the Owner/Director and politely point out that you know for a fact that Ducati Dealers have issued the extended Warranty cover to other second owners and would they kindly recheck the T&C's....maybe provide something in Writing for you.
    If you're still hitting a brick wall email Tim Maccabee.

  10. .....Tim, an after thought. As you've handed over payment (some time ago) I wonder if Ducati have a legal obligation now regarless in view of a contract having been enetered into i.e. payment received and accepted.
    ....where's Pete1959?....he seems really switched on with legal stuff!
     
  11. Hi Greg, I bought my bike last year from Laguna Motorcycles, they have been great, I gave them a prod at first, I also spoke to a lad called Michael on the Ducati stand at xcel and the nec. he contacted Laguna, Laguna contacted Ducati italy and I do have the extended warranty.
    I do not have any paperwork to say i have it, bit scary, but Laguna say that it is on the system so its all good!
    My bike was registered 20,10,2010, and it was ex demo. I paid £288 for the warranty.
    So, your dealer is wrong to say it cannot be issued on an ex demo bike.

I have just spoken to dealer and was told that only the first buyer would get the extended warranty, what i would suggest is to get the original owner to apply for the warranty and get it that way. There does appear to be some confusion between dealers and Ducati , dealers are selling the extended warranty and Ducati are not accepting it for a second owner.
     
  13. Kind of you to say so, and to make me 9 years younger!

    As I said several posts ago, it seems to me a contract would have come into existence with the payment and the forms. But again, what scenario are we talking about here?
    * If (say) the engine has blown to pieces and repairs will cost £thousands, and they refuse to fix it under warranty, then there would be a good case for obliging them to pay up under the warranty, even if they had failed to handle their part of the paperwork correctly.
    * However if the warranty cover is for a prospective twelve month period which has not yet started, if there is no actual claim pending, and if they want to give you your £300 back - on that scenario it would be hard to found a claim for any more than the £300. Rather, it would just be a matter of complaining that the dealer & Ducati have failed to follow their own procedures as advertised.

    By way of comparison, if an insurance company refuses to provide cover, but refunds your whole premium before the period of cover is due to start, you have no redress.

    That makes sense.

    steviegasgas / catweazle - contradictory result/info from two different Dealers.......why can't Ducati just get their act together with clear publicised T&C's?!....and their Dealers swat up on the products they sell!

    Catweazle may be right about second hand bikes , I think he is but in case anyone missed it my bike was ex-demo, Ducati owned.
     
  16. Andy, my 1200S is still at Riders in Bris waiting for tools to turn up for stripping the forks for shim job (bullitin 844, plus new dash, new left switchgear and rear brake to be redone). I have had a nice little Streetfighter 848 for the past 2 weeks on loan, nice but a bit like a Gorilla riding a BMX with me on it. So took that back today and got a Harley Road King as a loaner now. Not a bike I like, but at least Mrs Gas will go out on this as she would not get on the 848.

    Anyway, I asked Luke, the guy who does the warranty extensions at Riders Bristol about the lesser cover being talked about on Ever Red 3rd year cover. He told me he was not aware of this and made some calls. Duncan the Manager also had no knowledge of this. Luke has just phoned me to say he has it direct from Ducati UK, there is no reduction in the cover, no plan to change it either.

    I'm off next week to riders to pay me wedge and extend the warranty. With the list of stuff currently being done, I feel I need to take the extra cover....

    I hope this can relax some people that are concerned about the warranty issue?

  17. Thanks for that Chris..........there was always a suspicion that it was the level of cover in the US that was affected, strange but Ever Red cover appears to be different world wide (in the US they used [still can?] to be able to get an extra 3 years Warranty! :-O )

  18. Reviving an old thread here. Has anyone who bought the warranty not yet received any confirmation? My original warranty is out on 21st sept and even though I bought the warranty in Feb it is still not in the system.

    I have had enough of Ducati. yes the bikes great but bloody hell, they dont give a shit about their customers.

    If there was a descent bike to replace the Multi with it would be gone.

  19. I was given a receipt when I paid for the 1 year extension but no other confirmation, and have had warranty work carried out in the third year without any problem.
     
  20. Me too...they are replacing the left switchgear (sometimes sticky), doing the fork shims, and also contemplating/cogitating over replacement of the generator/water covers and the clutch cover...flaky paint see! ;-) They haven't agreed to that one yet.

    Oh, and finally the comfort pillion seat came through...the replacement, non-leaky one (to complement the replacement rider seat), and guess what? They don't leak! Well, at least not after a jolly good wash (the old ones would keep your legs wet for days after washing!). So that is good...
