WTF is Neutral

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Tuck, May 12, 2013.

  1. Just had my first ride on new GT, not sure if it is me not use to gearbox or not. I am finding it dificult to find neutral.
PS tried putting some hair around it.

  2. There's more than one neutral in that gearbox, wait until you find the one between 5th & 6th

  3. Get's better with time as you get used the box, just need to be positive with your shifts I find!

  4. Neutral is an optional extra, needs to be specified in original new build!!

  5. I got the extra one thrown in free of charge with the panniers and heated grips.

  6. Part of the ducati experience I believe

  7. They put neutral in just not in the place you expect try between 4-5 it's usually there :)

  8. Thanks all, maybe it is not just me then.

  9. It's not just you. I hit/fall into one between 5th and 6th on the odd ride.

  10. How did you find the new Pirelli Angel GT?

  11. Bit early to say yet, knew bike and only done 35 miles yet but generally pleased.

  12. +1, infact I have had false neutrals going from 3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th, 5th to 6th and from 6th to 5th
    but it does
    +1

  13. I've done 3k miles on the bike now and hit those false neutrals very rarely now but why let that get in the way of posting stupid replies to questions

I've got to admit that I hit those false neutrals when I'm being lazy on the bike and it never happens when I'm giving it some abuse so it's my fault rather than it being a bike issue.

  14. Never stopped me either

False neutrals were a big issue for me up to about 1,000 miles and then they almost vanished, it could be me getting more forceful with the gearbox, or, it may be that Ducati gearboxes need a good bit of running in before they work properly which may explain the OP issue.

  15. Common issue untill you have done a thousand miles or so

I found that if you adjust the gear lever slightly it helps to gain a more positive connection when changing

  16. 35 miles? That's a run to the corner shop

  17. Yes, I intend to get out in my days off later this week:smile:

  18. Seriously:
If the gear level angle is wrong compared to the actuator then you can find it hard to select neutral.
I've played around with this alot and I feel that if both ends of the gimble are at the same position say, 1 or 2 o'clock then it should be easy to select gears and find neutral.
I must admit on a long sweeping bend back to London on the M40 isn't the best place to find the "extra" neutral between 5th and 6th.

  19. As some previous posts. I find the MTS needs a firm foot! Positive change and a few miles under the tyres then the gearbox really improves. Also make sure chain is adjusted to correct slack. Unless I`m going mental I find the gearchange gets a bit "sloppy" as soon as the chain needs adjusting. Might be total BS but so far it`s been a spot on reminder to tighten chain up a bit.
    Apart from usual checks obviously.

  20. I agree, it's probably due to uneven or high side loads on the final drive.
If you are having issues selecting neutral at the lights then this is down to the lever position (as per my post) or possibly a dragging clutch.
