Ayrton Senna was killed in his Williams at Imola during that years San Marino GP. A day after Roland Ratzenberger was also killed. Many would say that Ayrton was the greatest F1 driver of all time. Aytron Senna and Mike Hailwood are my heroes.... I never got to meet Senna but did meet Mike Hailwood several time.
It’s an interesting debate, imo the best system of rating cross generational drivers is the ELO system. Senna just beats Schuey on this scale but Lewis will eventually eclipse them both. Not sure what that means? Jim Clarke won in virtually every class of car for his day & might well have been the best ever had he not been killed. Then there’s Fangio...
Senna is my all time greatest driver, Jim Clark was the man I followed as a school kid. Fond memories of all drivers and riders when I was growing up from the sixties right through the years.
It’s certainly an argument. Senna’s natural ability was very similar imo although his methods were very different. There’s a great story about a time he insisted on driving his boss Frank Williams home in a regular saloon car. Frank stated that he was shit scared at Senna’s speed & yet blown away by his car control. Coming up way too fast to a roundabout, Frank screamed at Senna that it was fast approaching & Senna’s legendary reply was “Quiet Frank, I’ll deal with that when I get there”
Great drivers from different decades and motorracing sporting disciplines, just not sure you can say one is better than the other in my book.
I only saw senna race once for real,European f1 Grand Prix,1993,donington park, made everyone else look like amateurs ,it was a tad damp that day
For me, the modern crop of drivers can never compare. the cars these days are much easier to drive and far less dangerous.
Is that Dave birds back garden? I know I've not been to Herefordshire for a few years but hadn't realised it had changed that much
