I know it does at the 600 mile mark. I am well past that. I recently had a big service done and expect to do all fluids myself going forward. Just wondering if/when I will need to speak to a dealer about resetting the light. The manual shows a Very long service interval for oil changes. Mine will be changed more often than that. Right now I am on the fence on whether to use Mobil 1 or Amsoil for the bike. Unsure about the filter, but I had heard good things about the Amsoil one. Thanks in advance Rex
So long as it’s a 15w50 that meets the same spec as the recommended Shell Ultra, you should be fine. Not all fully synthetic oils have the same proportion of detergents suited to wet clutches and road mileage. Cheap filters are likely to be just that, cheap filters, pays to buy quality. In the UK, it would be a challenge to find a dealer willing to reset the service indicator on a DIY serviced bike, maybe in the US you might find it different. Andy
OK But does the service light come on past the first 600 mile? If so, when? Please. my owners manual has the oil being changed on 9k mile intervals or one year. I am averaging about 1k a month. I am thinking I will do 2 oil changes a year at the least. Rex
On the resetting of the serivice icon on the dash. There are plenty of threads on this. They normally end up with, many main dealers will not reset the service light unless you had the work done by them, or some independents might do it for a charge if they have the right kit or if you a regular ducati rider who does work yourself then buying the leads and kit to do it yourself can be found.
Yes BUT I would still like to know if the light is JUST for the 600 mile service... OR If it will come back at 9K, 18K?? etc. It is NOT on now. Just wondering. My last service was at the Duc Shop here in Marietta GA. Maybe they can/would... Or one of the actual dealers. I cannot imagine it will be following the date... So mileage. Yeah it will suck if nobody will reset it. But I will still be doing 3/4 of my own oil changes. So 2 questions now... will come back at 9K, 18K?? etc. Does the counter count up from the last reset? or does it go only by the total miles? Rex
I have read many threads (Mostly about Oil and filters, but more than a few on the reset) across 4 sites. The only thing I heard about costs thousands of dollars. That is not worth it. I like to keep local sites employed... but I also like to do my own work. It's fulfilling and less expensive. I don't like to wash and wax it... so if there is a local place like that at a decent price I would do that monthly. I hope to be doing All fluids (Not forks) All farkles (That do not need an ECU programming) Remove wheels and have tires mounted and balanced. Air filter (need to check it soon) Battery Brakes Probably Chain and both sprockets Unsure about plugs and wires. Probably never the valves. Probably never the forks. Probably never the belts. Never wheel bearings Averaging over 1K miles (Easy) a month I will be busy, and whomever I use will see me much more often than most Ducati owners as per how many used bikes have such low miles. So I will seem like a regular compared to most. Of course if I buy another house I may then own more than 1 bike at a time. Then I might step it up. Rex
So... as far as I can tell... Maybe JPdiag can do my 2014 Monster 1200S?? I tried to find my ECU type on their site and was not sure i was correct... BUT, there my be another issue for me that I cannot find an answer to... Can I use the JPdiag software on something besides a windows laptop? Rex
I believe the service icon is set to illuminate after a set number of miles. It doesn’t reset it just keeps recording it. I believe there are 2 spanners which can appear, one will appear when the standard service is due ie probably after 9k miles on yours and 2 spanners will appear after 18k when the Desmo service is due. At least that’s what seems to happen on my 2008 1100S albeit my mileage intervals are less than yours. To reset it you’ll need JPDiag or something similar.
On my 16 DVT it came on after a year, no miles thing just a time thing for an annual service, I have done it myself and the light is still on, I ignore it at the moment as I check and service it more than is nessesary.
