I used to live in Kilkenny and can recommend a journey round the island of Ireland. If you get the weather it's as good as any biek route in Europe - But that's a big IF! Theres some lovely fast A roads between Rosslare & Killarney but be wary as in places it becomes very narrow with a lot of heavy goods traffic. Plus the road conditions can be - ahem - challenging at times. The Ring of Kerry is a "must do" but can get very busy in summer. Derry and Belfast are well worth a visit from a historical point of view, and also because they are friendly vibrant cities. The roads around the north coast are stunningly beautiful. Of course you have to visit Joey's Bar in Ballymoney to see the Honda on the wall that he took down & raced when his race bikes were all lost at sea. The M1 to Dublin is boring but you can then cut through the Sally Gap over Wicklow Mountains around Gledalough and the down to Wexford. Actually let me know when your going and I'll come with you!
Depends how long you want to take. The A5 (think thats what you are following) is Ok, large A road in the main.
You need to go to Brecon then up through middle of Wales through Newtown or you’re missing the best bit of the journey
Thanks for that. I had forgotten about Joey's Bar and that is a "must do" - although I've no idea where it is - but I can research it! I'm gonna do Scotland first and so it's likely to be 2022 or 2023. I will post something up here nearer the time.
I'm thinking of keeping things simple. I'll do Wales separately, I think. Probably, going into South Wales and round to The Mumbles and then up to Angelsey. Probably some M4 first to get near The Mumbles and then none. The way back would include Breacon and The Beacons. Two nights away, I think.
Why oh! why do people refer to Mumbles as "The Mumbles". You wouldn't say, for example, I'm going to "The London" or "The Liverpool" would you. Let me know if or when your coming this way PL, could meet up in Llandovery for a coffee.
