  7. Years ago before Sat Nav and mobiles in the days of the advertising paper, Motor Mart, I thought I’d bought a Zip racing Kart for my Son..

Agreed a price etc and asked the Guy on the phone regarding picking the kart up “ are you about tomorrow and whereabouts are you?”
He replied“ Can be and Ireland”

“ Brilliant I will see you tomorrow, I will call you again when I’m on the Island”

Only an hours drive or so away.
With one very excited Junior in my Transit van We spotted a telephone box and rang the number telling the guy we were on the island and asked exactly where about was he?
His reply shook me in my boots,

“Crikey” he said, “you must have caught the early ferry then! “

    “Ferry, What Ferry? “I asked..

“Well,” he said, “ unless your one amazing swimmer, the Car Ferry! “

I felt really sick! What I thought I’d heard as, Canvey Island, was actually “Can be And Ireland” as in Eire..

The Kart was, and as far as I know, still is, in Ireland, and not Canvey Island Essex ..

The accent should have had me Quizzing the location I guess but I just thought he might have been one of our traveller friends and based in Glorious Essex for a while...

  8. Well......just to close the thread off....it was a scam OBVIOUSLYYYYYY.....and I have returned to the sane side, as near as dammit! It's been a tough week in the MP world and I obviously needed a distraction.
I need to get out more!
Maybe I should've asked for him to throw the digger in?

  10. I honestly can't believe you were even considering it.

  11. but they are getting better and better at laying their traps, as said, "everyone loves a bargain". I can think of many times when I hesitated and missed one, it's a fine edge.

  12. Yes, maybe it was a factor that I had missed out on a genuine bargain just before lockdown.

  14. That car at that money was so far beyond a fine edge it was a stupid bit of attempted fraud imho.

  15. Agree. This one didn’t have the usual hallmarks of the previous scams. Not sure what the market value for that Porsche is but if had been more realistically “we’ll priced” It would have gone unnoticed until some poor sod got their fingers burnt.
