I am keen on ordering a new Multi very soon. If any of you can help answer some or all of these questions, it be really helpful for me when making my order. 1. Panniers and top box is essential for me, but is there any equipment on the S Sport model that the S Touring doesn't have. 2. I would like the Acropovic silencers. I understand that there's the 'complete' racing exhaust kit with a titanium silence, which is more expensive, as well as the cheaper carbon slip on silencer. Is the full system really worth the extra mine? Also does the Pikes Peak model come with the complete system or the mere slip on? If I would like the silencers anyway, would it be better to go for the Pikes Peak model and then add the panniers and top box? 3. Are there any other cool or useful extras (factory and aftermarket) that any of you owners have put on? Finally, my last concern is regarding when a replacement is expected for this model. I will probably keep the bike for 2 years and wouldn't be happy if this model was replaced during that time. As the new 1199 engine just came out, I was thinking that Ducati might bring out a new engine for the Multi based on the new unit. Thanks guys
I think you going to love this bike! Well I love mine! The sport version comes with lots of carbon bling and the full termi exhaust ie not cat box (straight through pipes) and a 40cm silencer/muffler similar to the pikes peak model! The touring version has no carbon fibre, however it comes with panniers, centre stand and heated grips! I can only recommend the heated grips...use them all the time! Aftermarket exhausts cost in the region of 5-700 Gbp .....includes de cat pipe and silencer. But you will need a way of deactivating the exhaust valve. Mivv use a little spring, arrow us a plate which goes on the servo motor. The Ducati full termi does it via the ECU....the pipes, silencer and ecu from Ducati cost 1200-1500 Gbp So if I could start again...and had all the cash in the world....Pikes Peak model, plus panniers and top box, plus heated grips! Ps forget the stubby exhaust...you need to get rid of the cat box...weighs 9 Kgs and screws up the performance especially at low rpm My tuppence
The sport version comes with full termi Mr Multi, I think not!! Pikes Peak comes with standard set up and stubby Termi which adds no value to sound. Heated grips are a must and the touring seat is proving to be a valuable extra. Takes a while to break in but after a 1000 miles or so it really is very good. If I had my time again I would go for the S touring with full Termi with cut down end pipe, touring seat and sports screen.
The sport doesnt come with the termi. I had a touring and then added the carbon beak. I would go the same way again as I wanted the panniers and the top box (extra) of course if you have the sport you will only have red as a colour choice. touring gives you white, titanium, red. Pikes peak looks great but I like to individually farkle mine. (see album) Your best bet is to go here and click on "configurator". Ducati Multistrada 1200 Sport, 1200 Touring, 1200 i bought mine new when they first came out but if I had my time now I would buy a second hand one to beat the initial drop in value. general concensus says the bike will be upgraded in 2015 I believe. This link will let you compare the equipment on all three bikes Ducati
Sorry folks, my mistake then...I somehow had it in my head that the sport and PP come with an uprated exhaust. Obviously not. Anyway one needs to get rid of the cat box at any rate....it f..ks up the low range RPM and after 10 minutes one feels like Noddy due to all the surging. (I still believe its the stupid exhaust valve). Heated grips a must. Panniers???havent used mine yet (but then need to do a long distance tour yet). Top box, great to stop the pillion from falling off I was fortunate in that I got the touring 2nd hand with lots of carbon, or I got the sport with panniers???still not sure which.
So if I go for the full Termi, would I still need to take the cat box out? If so, will that interfere with insurance/warranty? Looks like I'm going to go for a Touring S in race titanium matt with the full Termi and a top box. How does that sound? I'm thinking it'd be a waste to go for the Pikes Peak only to then go and replace the exhaust for the full Termi Is there anything special about the sat nav, does it integrate with the bike in anyway and be any different to the existing Tom Toms and Garmins that I already own?
have a look at my German Satnav holder thread before you go and pay Ducati for an "out of date" satnav. http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/request-details-german-satnav-holder-1497/
Hi DM and welcome to the forum  The full Termi is expensive but imho well worth the extra bucks........you get a hi-flow air filter and 'race' ECU as part of the kit and the headers/pipework is larger diameter for better gas flow. Acropovic only make a 'slip-on' for the MTS12 not a full system. The likes of Arrow and MIVV full systems get good reviews from most riders and cost a fair bit less than the full Termi - there shouldn't be any Warranty issues with any system but as the full Termi is Ducati 'approved' it's the safest bet on that front. If you come clean and advise your insurer of modifications it will add a fair bit to the premium.....Ducati Insurance is really good when it comes to cover for bikes with the full Termi, my premium inc 'accessories' inc the full Termi to a value of £2k didn't raise the premium by too much. SatNav.......the Ducati item looks good but that's it, it's a much lower spec than say the Zumo 660 and costs more! Lots of ideas and info on fitting/install here (and a bunch of other stuff!;-) [shameless plug!] MTS1200.info redirect
I went for the S then added all the touring bits as i wanted the carbon beak. Added Panniers + extra wide lids Top Box Ctr Stand Heated Grips Keyless filler Used Garmin sat Nav 660 The bike is already prewired for power so simples to fit
I've got the touring as it seemed better value having the panniers, heated grips and centre stand than some bits of carbon fibre. The centre stand is priceless for working on the bike (wheel removal, chain lube etc.) Before you spend a fortune on the full termi system, find one to listen to. They are awful LOUD. I saw one fail a track day noise test so they can hardly be road legal. There are also reported issues with them melting indicators and other bits of tail plastic as they are angled towards them. On the plus side, their ECU seems to completely sort out any fuelling glitches for which the Multi has become infamous. None of the slip ons seem to make much difference as the cat seems to do most of the silencing. The bike doesn't sound that loud with NO silencer on the cat! The bars ARE wider than the panniers for filtering.
I bought the 's' and thought I would get myself some second hand panniers, how wrong. I ended up buying brand new panniers from the dealer for a discount. The second hand ones I did find we're nearly as much as new ones. I'm glad I went for the s and not the touring due to the carbon etc. you do need those heated grips though and that's the next purchase for me. Hinchy
Another S specced up to Touring here. Got a great deal on a new S then added full Termi, grips, panniers, box, touring seats and keyless cap. Cost a bit but I'm totally happy with the result.
