  1. Tempting. I may go for it. Haven't ridden round Cadwell for 30 years. I expect the corners are still much the same.

  2. Pete - the corners are the same - but are you still as fast as you thought you were ? Get it booked - this aint no dress rehearsal son !

  3. The older you get, the faster you were!

  4. Hi guys...new to this forum. Will be at Cadwell on 999s. Went on the same event last year - wet all morning. Only one proper dry afternoon session before being rained off again. Still a load of fun. Incredible circuit.

Bike event suits me as I don't want my pride and joy being t-boned by a wannabe racer. Good chat with the Bike journos - Mike Armitage was there on Panigale to guage reaction to it.

  5. Just booked Cadwell 16 May. As usual, extremely difficult to use MSV's idiotic website, but I got it to work in the end.

  6. Booked onto June 13th at Brands. I was able to use my loyalty card after booking two trackdays with MSV, so saved a few quid, not much, about the same as one tank of fuel

  7. Took that tyre off today, to find (a) there was another nail in the same tyre causing a further puncture; and (b) the repair done at Snetts had not vulcanised properly and was peeling away. Very glad I did not risk it on the track.

  8. :eek::eek:

  9. A good trackday today. Weather stayed dry, and I met several Ducati folk including Dodgy Dave from on here. And no punctures.

On the way up the M11 yesterday as I passed Duxford I saw a plane in the air. It turned out to be a Spitfire, turning barrel rolls and loops. And on the way back today near Sleaford I saw another plane - it was a Eurofighter Typhoon coming in to land. Two little treats.

  10. Glad you had a good day. Unfortunately due to I'll health I had to call off.

  11. Well, nice to have a brief chat Pete, would have liked to talk more -but I am afraid to say that Thursday was my last Trackday. I used to enjoy the event, making quite an effort not to be last !! However I had my doubts when riding to the track, and thought " you will be fine when you get out" but no. I did not settle at all on the three sighting laps, did not enjoy one moment and so went straight home. Obviously the right decision for me, but a shame none the less. Hi mileypau, had a great chat at the bar - hope you had a good day too !!

  12. New to the forum so hi!

I have booked for the trackday at Brands GP circuit in September. Very excited, its my first trackday - going for the novice group and will see how the day pans out)

Hoping to drum up some interest here and get some other Ducati's out on the day!

  13. Well done :upyeah:, but thats in September, surely there's a few nearer the time. Brands Indy is in June, or there are lots of others by MSVT as well

  14. Oulton Park is the next one on the 30th July

  15. While I can understand the ethos of what is trying to be achieved here, I find it hard to see as attractive.
If the the track was on my doorstep, then perhaps I would consider riding to the track and riding home, but to travel several hundred miles before and after on the bike just doesn't appeal to me at all.

I've done dozens of trackdays in various places over the years, and part and parcel of being able to enjoy it is prepping the bike for the track at home, being able to tweak or solve any issues while there due to having tools etc, and finally being able to thoroughly go over the bike after transporting it home and then putting it back to road use. The thought of being stranded miles from home and the rigmarole of trying to get a bike back with a terminal problem just doesn't appeal at all (mech failure or even crash damage. I have recovery etc, but just couldn't be arsed).

I'm not in the tyre warmer brigade, but still like to have some gear around me for days like this where you are pushing the bike that little bit further than normal road use allows. It is nice to have the confidence in the machine when riding, and having to bodge little repairs or tweaks through lack of kit will certainly not provide this. Carting suitable gear would be fine on summit with panniers etc (though breaker bars and torque wrenches probably wont fit there either), but lugging decent tools in a rucksack on a sportsbike would be a pain.

The last thing to put me off is security. I mostly like to travel the evening before and enjoy the craic with other riders. While not guaranteed safe in the back of a van, my pride and joy is a wee bit happier than being stuck outside in some nondescript hotel/b&b carpark.

Each to their own I suppose, but give me a proper style trackday any day over something like this. I would much prefer to just go and have a decent run out on the road.

  16. Each to their own indeed. There are options for everybody.
The track just happens to be a safer more controled enviroment to explore the upper limits of your bikes performance
and your own skill levels. Without coming into conflict with other road users or the law!

  17. Yip, I guess there are enough "normal track days" out there anyway. I bet that these Bike Mag days are most attended by first timers, or people that would live local to the track.

I'm not going to the earlier one as I have prior commitments that day, and don't have a van to get to others, so thats why I'm waiting till Sept...

    Still very excited.

Question - given its my first time, and in a novice group, how important will my tyres be? The bike still has what must be quite old Michelin Pilot Sports (must be older than 5 yrs). Its just been through MOT so all legal, just wondering if age of tyres is an issue?

  18. There is a fair proportion of first timers at Bike Mag days, as they are less intimidating than "normal" days.
The age of a tyre is important. They do deteriorate with age. A track day will put a lot of stress on the tyres, and you.
Why risk binning it, put some new tyres on.To late to consider it when you are sliding down the road at Paddock bend!

  19. If your tyres are 5 years old, replace them. Your tyres will be put under more stress than you on the trackday. Also, tyres have improved over the last few years, it might be a revelation for you....sticky rubber!

  20. That all makes sense, thanks.

Don't want to turn thread into tyre chat, but suggestions for mobile fitters, or good suppliers in Surrey would be awesome (and your 5p's worth of actual tyre suggestions - I'm not a knee down hero...yet)...
