Offer Of Organised Ride - South Of France

Discussion in 'Touring' started by The Royal Maharaja, May 13, 2020.

  1. Hi there!

In the spirit of "thank goodness we can go out the house again", here in France anyway....

I would like to offer the possibility for anyone passing by my neck of the woods to call in, and I would be happy to organise a day trip in the surrounding countryside.

I have lived here in the South of France 10 years (From Newcastle originally) and have toured all over the Verdon/Luberon & low Alps, and would be happy to share some local knowledge with anyone passing through.

    Don't be shy.

    Good luck to all.
    Grant

  7. I'm about 25 mins North of Toulon...EVENOS (Tiny village in the countryside). It's about a 2 hour run to the Gorge de Verdon....

  8. Thats a part I really don't know at all. Montpelier to Argeles, & Monaco to St Tropez but the "middle bit" is mostly a blank!

  9. Some great roads...I did it last year, stayed in Cotignac for over a week.
The Gorges roads were quite busy but all the other roads are amazing....not to mention food, wine, sun etc.

  10. I think I remember your thread...

  11. Hi Grant

My son moved to Aix en Provence last year and I planned to take a ride down to visit him some time this summer. That was before Covid which has also provided me with the joy of some unpaid leave.
So if it’s possible at some point later in the year it would be nice to take you up on your offer. Particularly if I am doing most of it solo.

    cheers

    Steve

  14. Thanks Grant . Hopefully safe next year but would like to tap into your knowledge . Did Route des Grande Alps last year with the intention of going to the Gorge de Verdon but only got down as far as Embrun.Would probably be looking for a route from Spain The intention being to spend some time in Spain then make our way east across what looks like lots of National Parks to Verdon .Then back up the Rd GA .We would use Brittany Ferries to Spain and DFDS to Newcastle from Ijmuiden

  15. Good man, thank you.

  16. Nice area, love that road up the side of lac de castellane, just a bit further north.
Might be visiting the area in a couple of months. Assuming the 100km limit gets lifted!

Just checking Gmaps tonight to see how far I can go in the morning. Correze and a bit Dordogne at the moment..

  18. Steve, sure. Just drop me PM if it comes to pass, my work is reasonably flexible so I can nearly always find space for ride!

Ps: If it's mid summer it is too hot!

    Cheers!
