  4. Went to the Builders’ Merchant’s to get some more timber, then put a brace into the front gates, just in case they sag; they definitely won’t now. Then built a garden bench out of all the offcuts I had :upyeah::). Job jobbed now. Bike stuff tomorrow:D.

  7. Sorry buddy the brace should go from the hinge upwards to stop the gate sagging in the middle ! Sorry pal couldn't help myself but you went apeshit on the engineering anyway :D

  9. F**k it, now you say:mad:. I did try it that way as well but SWMBO and I both agreed that aesthetically it looked better as it is. Oh FFS!

I could change it tomorrow, flip them around and do a bit of trimming but actually there are so many bolts and screws in the construction and the timber is such heavy duty and the horizontals are all embedded into cut outs in the verticals with no room to move or twist, that if @laava were to drive his quad into them I reckon they wouldn’t budge an inch and he’d just come out chipped the other side. They ain’t gonna sag now.

  14. The gate will be fine Paul, everthing sags in Cork anyway.
Took a few pics of the Tuono to possibility put her up for sale, the MV makes it look slow on the handling side of things.

  15. I think the braces are good Paul, and close to the top hinge as well. I promised to to plough my quad through it as well!

  16. Built some stairs today and bolted the tops and put small conc pads underneath. We have a very difficult section, accesswise, it is almost entirely rock and where it disappears under the house is where it is met by a lava flow coming down from the topside! All dirt for gardens and lawns we had to bring in essentially. 07A01841-8EFD-4F1B-88EB-E196BD2676D0.jpeg CFCFF772-65C1-4FCD-B191-56B517061C82.jpeg image.jpg

  17. So sorry to hear about this, very sad. :(
Condolences to you and your family.

  18. Or are you saying the bolts might not come out easily...especially if turned in the wrong direction? Just saying likeo_O

Lovely gates mind, would have preferred the hinges to be on the inside of the gate though, but that's just me :upyeah:

  19. Ta for the info. There are 2 80mm screws in each part where the brace crosses the horizontals to avoid any pivoting. I did think of putting bolts in there but then thought with just the one bolt it could pivot so opted for screws instead.

Im gonna keep my eye on it by measuring the gap between the gates. It’s 2cm at the bottom (as planned when I measured them all up :upyeah::)) but 5cm at the top (as the left hand gate post is very slightly off vertical:(). If they do start to sag then the gap at the top will decrease .

    I will report back.

Hmm, we’ve had Sprocketgate, perhaps I should have started a new thread Front gategate:thinkingface::D
