Hi, Here are some pictures of the current state of my homegrown 999 Racer. I already did a lot of things but there is still some major and many minor changes to be done and bought. Tuesday will be the first track day this year, I will be heading to the Red Bull Ring here in Austria to find out how good or not she is. At least I was able to shove a lot of weight off thr bike, she now weighs 165kg without fuel which is quite a success already. Raoul
That exhaust system is just the bollocks, so aggressive. Also, 165kg without fuel is bloody impressive.
It’s an Akrapovic Titanium system and even more it’s a real race kit not the similarly looking street version. Huge diameter and a nightmare to install. Extremely lightweight though. Was a lucky find on German eBay small ads. I was really astonished when I put her in the scales after I was finished as hadn’t expected that in my wildest dreams. Now the bug has bitten me and will try to reduce the weight a bit more. I think 163 could be achievable without doing any really crazy things. So far every weight saving was not for its own sake but for another and very good reason (wheels, gears, flywheel, tank and so on)
What you need is some lovely billet chain adjusters from @Jamie Clare ! Nice yoke - what sort is it? Have you done any engine work to it?
I agree regarding the adjusters, unfortunately I already had started producing my own The yoke is from guy in Germany but he isn’t making them anymore sadly. You can adjust the trail with various inserts, cool item. The engine is quite stock so far, just has a lighter flywheel, light gears and primary, rs selector forks and a fine adjusted timing. And 12 hole injectors controlled by a Microtec M197 ECU. There will be a proper engine build next winter but as time and funds aren’t endless I have to do it all step by step Raoul
165 is inclusive all fluids except fuel. There is no wet weight as it makes no sense in my opinion. It is depending on the tank volume and furthermore I never ride with full tank anyway
It’s larger amd higher what was one of the important aspects as I wanted a tank on which I can lean on better with the forearm on hangoff. Capacity is somewhere round 20 liters, nor completely sure now
that’s an impressive weight saving mate. I’ve done loads to mine, Carbon all over and Ti and mag parts and am close to 180Kgs but can’t imagine ever getting close to that number, (not that I’m really trying).
I am running OZ Piega which are already quite light and as said above, I wouldn’t spend a fortune just for the weight’s sake. The savings are just the outcome of all combined measures, a tad more than 3kgs came just from the titanium exchaust which replaced the full Termignioni kit. Tabk is a huge saving, wheels as said, engine parts, Kifepo battery, removing everything unnecessary for racing and so on. Removing parts is what I like most about building
That’s it mate. Never set out modding mine with weight loss in mind. Just happened with all the mods. Still a road bike though so all the lights, switch gear...
Looks great, looking forward to hearing about how it performs on track. I assume it will be a shakedown test or have you ridden it before somewhere?
