  2. generally the service industry seems to have suffered , maybe a reflection of society and a lack of respect or morals. People tend to speak to one another like shit and that works both ways, customer to sale person and back!!!

Lexus were fantastic, although I did have 3 cars off them so must have been one of their fav customer lol

Generally i find the buying part pretty smooth, Porsche was fab. Ducat dealer was fab.

The issue generally seem to be that once you have coughed up your well earned thousands of pounds your suddenly not at all important. After sales service is so hit and miss.

Porsche, brand new small fault...fixed in 2 days when I just drove to the dealer and spoke nicely to the bloke who sold me the car. Bent over backwards all sorted and car was valeted. Should be the same everywhere regardless of the marque.

Now Ducati....totally different story.....brand new 12k Hyper SP, cracked hand guard / indicator. No one even told me about it, so excited rode off before noticing, U turn back to point out. Only to be told sorry forgot to tell you about that....hmmmm 4 weeks later no one has contacted me to say the offending part is in the shop and ready for me to drop it off and get replaced.....

patience running out.....I will be in UK beginning of June and unless its resolved I will be on here naming dealer and throwing a hissy fit the like of which they will not have seen before....

  3. at least I know where to send the christmas card now

  4. In my relatively limited experience of car and bike dealers, I've found that being polite and trying to have a laugh with them gets things done in a pain free manner! We've just bought a replacement car for our old Saab (2006 model with 96k on the clock) with another Saab with only 40k on it. Nicky rang the dealer and started off the conversation with " have you still got the blowjob Saab?" The salesman was slightly taken aback, but when it was pointed out that the reg started with BJ08 he laughed, said he'd not noticed, but from that point on was great to deal with!
I personally would avoid Renault as I had many bad times with an Espace, I would also avoid a Corsa as I have to drive one for work and the pedals are slightly offset to the left, which puts a strain on my back, but would recommend a Skoda because, as has been pointed out its just a VW with a different badge! Seat might also be worth looking at for the same reason.

  5. I bought my last car online - a Honda CRV. The deal included px of a Saab and some finance. Armed with the printed offer I approached my local Honda dealership to see if they would give better terms. No go - they would not even match the online offer - so that afternoon, with some trepidation I placed the order online and paid the deposit. The deal was entirely trouble free; a couple of weeks after placing the order I got an Email telling me that a transporter would arrive to collect the Saab and that the following day my Honda would be delivered. It all happened exactly as described - and without any hassle from indifferent / aggressive / illinformed / lying / cheating sales scum.
Just a pity Honda don't do the small / low cost hatchback thing - Jazz is excellent - but not cheap - and does not have kudos of some other (inferior) brands.

I will buy my next car on line!

  6. I would continue the battle of wits but it appears my opponent is unarmed.

Suppose I should know better than to enter the lounge. Lol

  7. At the end of the day anyone trying to sell you something whether it be a car, bike, fridge or hamster will always make out they are your best friend and just tell you what you want to hear, the secret is to be able to cut through the bull shit and see whats in front of you.

  8. Absouteley Phil, I'm not saying that the fiat is a bad car, infact all of the stigmatised euro marques have really come on and there is nothing to worry about as warranty catches 99% of any issues.

All ford did was buy the platform, which they adapted to work in a wider range of markets. However the markets that are traditional euro marque stomping grounds - fiat / citroen (with nissan backing now ) really are very capable and good vehicles.

  9. bye then :upyeah:

  10. Right so now Swiss Toni has gone ,,,

perhaps a better deal to be found privately on something low mileage with warranty left

will go back to Toyota for a test spin and maybe check out the Ford's first

at the end of the day just want a reliable cheap runaround that falls into the Group 1-3 insurance bracket and if I buy from a dealer knowing that any problems will be handled professionally

  11. Regardless of wether they share platforms, engines or minor components, the French badged cars come from a French company. That's reason enough not to buy one in my book.

There's no way I would ever willingly/knowingly buy something French.

  12. No need to avoid Renault, especially now you are acquainted with your local Renault sales manager!

The next car I get will be a proper leased car......so the leasing company can do the bl**dy haggling.

My stepson has just leased a brand new Merc SLK 2.5 diesel drophead.......a bit over £250/month....10,000 miles per year, taxed first year (even though the tax on it is less than my 2.0 litre coupe).....first service 20,000 miles...two year contract...hand it back after two years and just before the first service; then drive away in another new one.

    Makes sense to me....

    AL

    well thats just charming!

  13. So you know Renault owns Nissan right?

  14. almost everything is a coalition now... it makes perfect sense. The french have made some utterly brilliant cars, the Citroen Ds suspension was so good it was lifted directly into the Rolls Royce silver shadow. The CX was simply barking, and the french lead the world in its diesels. The Toyota aygo / Citroen C2 / Pug 107 is the best car in its class by a mile, and while the C and D sector french cars are a little faceless (although the same can be said of most cars in the class) Renault trucks (who own Mack) are excellent, as are their vans. so good nissan didn't bother making their own, they just slapped their badge on them (ditto vauxhall)

oh - the Espace isn't a Renault, its the last bastion of Matra....

  15. Yeah fuck 'em. They won't buy our lamb

  16. Test drive tomorrow, just got to remember our driving licences

  17. I didn't know that - but they're now on my banned list as well!

  18. I won't be coming to yours for a wine and cheese evening then.

What have the French done to you?

  19. I once had mystery buyer assignments with BMW, Audi and Saab. The results were predictable: irrespective of marque, some garages were passionate about their brand and would do anything to help you, others were so totally unhelpful that you wouldn't buy a spark plug from them, let alone a car. But visiting 10 garages from each marque was really interesting.

Quite apart from test driving cars we should really be test driving dealers too.

  20. But you obviously don't mind buying Italian, a brand owned a German company, hmmm
