Going back to BMW????

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Richard 1200, May 4, 2013.

  1. Just thought I'd add that this year up to end April '13, BMW Motorrad (worldwide) have sold 10,883 of their new '13 GSs out of a total sales number of 39,319 bikes and scooters and April '13 was a record sales year for BMW Motorrad in their 90 yr history.
Let's say for argument's sake that those 10,883 GSs have only on average done 500 miles each, that still makes over 5 million miles ridden on the new '13 GS so far. Statistically, the pre production journo crashes would have been repeated many many times by now and it hasn't happened or we would be sure to have heard about it by now.

  2. Well said plus all the mags long term test bikes (last months bike I think did a big feature on a huge mileage, all condition, test)
Indeed mine was the 13th the sales guy personally sold & I'm having to wait 2 & half months whereas my local Ducati shop has the skyhook ready to go on the shop floor .

  3. I am trying to get this out of my head but I fear, that from this point on, the BMW R1200GS will always be known as 'Hitler's Bike'

  4. I know it's wrong but it keeps making me laugh as well.

  5. I like the Germans. I really do.

But for some strange reason, I still have a problem with a brand whose logo is an aircraft propeller.

    I mean, Luftwaffe anyone?

  6. Alle zis spreche uber Hitler und Luffwaffe iz sehr interesant.
Ve vill put ihr namen on dee Liste!
Tommies? Vee vill never Tommies verstehen.
Whooz zide sind sie on fur Himmel's sake?
Fur punishment sie muz alle ride ein Triumph motorrad und dann nicht mehr vill vee read zuch words.

  7. Nothing wrong with the Krauts. Wiped Japan off the map (no pun you ba$tards) with the S1000RR on the first innings. Respect.
The stats for the R80GS, I mean the 1200LC (and earlier iterations) over the last 25 years speak for themselves.

Still..my MTS is my weapon of choice.

  8. Up yours you jerman barsket.

  9. I'm confused. What's a GS?

  10. he means a Hitler Bike.

 sorry, I'm still laughing at Fogump's stuff

  14. I drove both back to back, the mts 1200 and the gs 1200 new model and have to say i liked the multi more, ive been and avad bmw fan off the gs for a good number off years, had 3 1100gs,4 1150'gs,and 3 1200gs,and i loved them all,but the new one is a different animal all together, your in it rather than on it,you could make a phone call at 50 mph goin down the road, not with the multi, they go well, handle well and yeh ya turn it all off and ya can hussle them on the best to make a few sportsbike rider wonder how da feck your doing it,but the multi with that 25 bhp more and abs and traction adjustment in better defined and makes the bike feel so much better,it handles like a sportbike, goes like a sport bike, stops like one too,its my first ducati ever that i can say that i really like and enjoyed on the test drive.but dont take anything away with the bmw it was super too and a super machine
but i opted for the ducati, and i traded a 1200gs and a rare Aprilia racing in also, the duke really is 4 in one bike
    you can fault neither bikes

  15. Well following on from this I did around 400miles in a matter of a few weeks and really got to know the Multi well. Realised that I did not want to sell after all. Had the 1year service done and tested the twin spark motor, OMG what an improvement. New twin spark Multistrada delivered today. Love it.

  16. Ok. Here's my tuppence worth: I am 57, been riding since I was 16 and have ridden GS1200s large distances over short periods in the US.

After having done so I got bitten by the high-mileage bug and decided to out my beloved Speed Triple because it was many things, a consumer of miles it wasn't! Not unless you were happy to fill up every 110 miles or so and didn't mind the aches and pains!

But I didn't consider a GS as I didn't think I could live with it after my US travels so looked for something else.

I'd never considered a Ducati since my 20s. I'm 6ft 2in ffs! But when the 2012 Multi started getting rave reviews I decided to get one. A two-hour test ride convinced me and a deal was done.

I took delivery on April 20 and can't keep off the thing. 3,000 miles already and a two-week trip to France and Spain the week after next will see the first-service interval chalked up inside 15 weeks. I can't think of any bike I have owned (and there have been a few) that I would have done that on - even when I was a callow youth. What a machine!!

  17. Fpmsl you're Friday takeaway discussion with the missus must be fun. What a transformation, from now on you shall be known as Shrek, ala Wayne Rooney 'I want to leave Man U' followed by 'I never wanted to leave its the best club in the world'
    ;-)

  18. Well it is the best club in the world

  19. I'm glad you like the Germans. My mum was German, dad was Irish.....makes me a very efficient idiot.
