Might be a daft question but I need to remove the crash bars to access panel screws and one of them looks to pass through and support the engine, if I remove this bolt does the engine need to be supported? Assume it’s a long bolt that passes all the way through like on the MV 800’s? Also any idea of correct torque setting when doing back up, read that overtightening can crack the block? Cheers
Torque settings can be found here..... https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/ducati-workshop-manual-torque-specs-full-list.77007/ You'll have to wait for answer re supporting engine but it wouldn't hurt if you did that anyway. But I wouldn't apply too much upwards pressure when doing said support as that's just as bad as not enough. Had that issue when I was replacing the frame on an 1100 Katana many years ago.
That bolt you have highlighted doesn’t support the engine and can be removed without taking any extra precautions. Andy
From experience, be careful. If you only take out that one bolt it is OK, However to remove the crash bar, you take out most of the mounting bolts and the engine can indeed drop a little. I would find a length of bar to push out that bolt and then do the same in reverse to get it back in to make sure everything stays lined up. Mine dropped but only by 3mm or so when I was fitting my crashbars with all the bolts out. I was able to get the fixing back in with a bit of wiggling and going in from the opposite side at the same time but a lesson was learned .
I supported mine with a jack when I put my bars on. It didn’t feel like it wanted to move, but I did it anyway.
I’ve just fitted Touratech crash bars to my DVT, the bolt in question, just passes through the frame, as far as I’m aware it has no support to the engine at all !! While on the subject, does anyone have the Touratech bars and Evotech engine guard ? The bars took a little while to fit as there were no instructions, but now I can’t get the engine guard to fit, obviously not compatible and I wondered if there was a Touratech compatible guard anyone is using. Any help/ advice would be welcome. Cheers
you'll either need to leave the centre section out, bend it otherly, or buy the Touratech rad guards and belly pan from me...
I made you a reasonable offer last week For the bash plate but didn’t get a reply, which was an assumption of NO!!!
