☝️ I'm New - But I Know That Ducati Finger Trick...

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Dinozoiks, May 24, 2020.

  1. Been a lurker for a while but thought I'd jump into the ring at last. Greetings from East Finchley. Have a few bikes, the Ducati 748 being the oldest but the first one I mention when people ask what bike I ride. Obviously.

Do all the spanner work myself, have power tools, 3D print stuff, know how to change belts, have had my fair share of split coolant expansion tanks, cooked rectifiers, wonky TPS settings, burn wiring looms, failed stator wires, frost damaged EPROMs, cracked temperature gauges, failed clutch master cylinders, seized rear brake master cylinders, broken fairings and I swap exhausts at least every 2 months for some reason or other.

Still haven't managed to apply a nose fairing number board sticker properly (2 attempts) and haven't ever tracked down a half-passable match for "Ducati Gold" wheel and frame paint... or brown or bronze or whatever it's called.

I also know that trick to pop the rear seat latch without a key by using your finger.

That's pretty much me. Glad to be here!

  4. Greetings!

Sometimes if you spray warm water with a litle washing up liquid mixed in, onto the surface where you want a sticker, you can slide it around quite easily. You'll need a 10pence squidgy thingomibob from eBay to push the water out from under the decal -so buy it first.

    Remember I did say sometimes...

  8. Yeah, tried all the ninja tricks (soap, hair dryer, squeegy etc) but always have it unstick across the top of the board as it tries to span the gap in the negative crease by the side of the screen. Worst bit is, it makes like a mini "fajita pocket" that then fills with water and crap and then never sticks again. Definitely user error but it's doubly annoying as I class myself as a "sticker application expert".

My fix is going to be just to scalpel the "pocket" and insert a spare bit of white sticky vinyl under it to hide the resulting red v-shape poking through. I realise the world is going to crap, the sea is filling with plastic micro-granules, but this sticker application is important stuff to crack.

  11. Well in that case you could call a car wrap place and have them supply the next one and fit it? Guranteed result for about the same money as buying another sticker. They will have the white vynil there ready to go.

Oh and um you might want to change your status to "apprentice sticker application expert "? LOL

  12. Thanks! I have a history in data security so I'm just doing a personal / moral / data / technical assessment about posting bikes and the likelihood of them last being spotted being loaded into a white van. #London. Strava does the same to stop people seeing nice pictures of expensive bikes and showing where you live from your route plot.

In the meantime, I've done an artists impression. Looks a bit like this...

  15. I see you have a genuine Mono subframe...

Welcome - looks like you’ve had the standard run of 748 issues so you must be well versed in the foibles of the type and how to get around them

  17. Lol, it’s actually a Bip, so will have to add the pad on the drawing. Sorry for any confusion caused. Can’t believe you didn’t pick up on the new Lithium Ion battery. ;)

  19. Ha, I added 748+916 to see if I could base a smart-assed answer on the result. Interestingly, it’s 1664... same as the beer I have sat in front of me right now! Who knew. That worked out better than I expected. :motorcycleduc::beer:

I’d like to think Ducati planned that. The entire strategy for their engine sizes. Like the Tesla release order... model S, 3, X, Y... “sexy”.
