Homologation Series

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by mike clark, May 23, 2020.

1. Ok so i bought 2 brand new 916 sps, both came with stamped plates on the top of the yoke with diferrent numbers as part of a series of 1 to xxx put into production
So are you telling me that this number has no reflection on the value of the bike ?, and how will i ever know if its a special that has been bored out as number 1 to xxx ?. Obviously totally confused

2. Im not saying that no. Those plaques are just part of a special bike. The bike itself is special as it is a 916SPS and is 1 of xx amount that were produced.
The plaque was issued on the bike from new and is an important part of the bike for the majority of buyers. So yes, it will be part of the bikes provenance and value.

You will know by knowing what should have been on the bike when new, the spec, the motor numbers, the frams numbers, the small details that were original such as the 996 engine, the special frame number, floating front disks with unique centres, p8 computer, extra pickup, 50mm exhausts with carbon guard, ohlins rear shock, carbon v panel, undertray hugger and mudguard. All of this combined with a verification from Ducati you would think would be enough for most buyers, but not all. A good chunk want it to have that plaque.
Then the minor details to differentiate between 97/98 such as decal placement on tank and seat and side fairings, bolt spacing on front brake calipers.

3. I suggest you get in touch with Ducati in Italy by email.

If you tell them your VIN and engine numbers, they should be able to confirm the build specification, including whether it was built as an SP or SPS, and the engine capacity. They are unlikely to be able to tell you what number was on the top yoke plate/plaque as they don’t appear to have recorded the allocation of those.

As far as I’m aware, no one has compiled a list of yoke plate and VIN numbers to try to work out the gaps.

There has previously been discussion on this Forum about selling bikes with the plate absent from the yoke as some people are reluctant to believe it’s a “Real” SP or SPS without one, even when Ducati have confirmed it is.

4. There’s some background here:

https://www.corsasbk.com/news/ducati-916-sp-part3/

Some other “Good to Knows” about the Ducati 916 SP’s:
• The only numbered 916SP is the 916 SP3, previous SP1 & SP2 didn’t have a numbered plaque.
• In contrast to the later 916 SPS and 996 SPS, a Ducati 916 SP has 916 cc’s. The later Ducati 916 SPS was the first Ducati equipped with the bigger bore 996 cc engine as is the Ducati 996 SPS.

19. No worries, we're HTH (here to help).
When you hit reply it quotes someone, you see it appear as
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
, write what you want to say AFTER the last
otherwise it disappears into the middle of whatever it was you replied to and if the original message was long people may not click 'reveal all' and may not read what you wrote.:upyeah:
