I absolutely love my GS!! I thought being 39 and owning one was a little young, but i'm not bothered anymore. Its the perfect road bike, plenty of grunt low down, easy to ride (despite its size) Once you're used to it, good luck to anyone taking you on round some twisties, you'll leave them for dead! See if you can get one for a weekend. I nod at everyone when i'm out. Its quite rare now to get something back. People automatically think i'm a w***er because i'm riding a GS, which i hate being called... I much prefer p***k...
Utter w****r. They're shit, sell it, poke some girls, drink beer and become a bloke again. Pleased I could help.
Thing is bikes like this, SDuke and S1r are great fun. For a few miles. Then the reality of no screen makes 50-120 mph fun zone hard work. Also makes the 160ish + top end useless. Fitted an mra touring screen (the sort that some naked bike owners scorn..) to my S1r to make it a useable motorcycle. Tested up to the rev limiter in 6th on a private road in Spain
I was looking forward to your reply and you didn’t let me down Gimpo.....One criticism though, you didn’t use the word bender!! Absolute lunatic.
I love my R1200s and it really is a great road bike but when I decide to replace it I’ll probably go for the R1200r sport. So much lighter than a GS and no ‘ scene tax ‘ so quite a bit cheaper.
Back on thread...I like the look of these, now heavily revised (2020 model year) and much more suspension fine tuning via the on board tft menu. Supposed to be slimmer around the tank as well. They were a bit ‘fat’ when they first came out, that and reports of harsh suspension put me off. Going to have a test ride when available to see if it can cope with poor road surfaces.
It’ll be interesting to hear how you get on, by all accounts it’s a fair bit improved. The TFT brings it up to date as well.
If they’ve got rid of the vibrations then those XR would be a great compromise. I do think they’d be tiring still compared to the GS which is ridiculously good once you’ve got your head used to the idea you’ll never have sex again.
Xr Handlebars now isolated from vibes. The 2020 is as good as a new bike. Very few common parts with earlier s1000. Supposed to be a big improvement in refinement. We will see. Probably test ride one when available. It will need to be very good to make me change.
Could be a deal on your sps... XR still no go for me, even if it’s less vibe. Way too tall. Far more than a multi, which is taller than the gs. The semi-active suspension is nowhere near close to same league as multi either, so I’ll be sticking with Gs for now..
