748 Noise From Air Vents

  1. Stab in the dark. But, I have noticed a noise which comes from out of the air vents and is in rhythm with the engine ticking over. Its not that loud, just noticeable if you put your head at the front of the bike and definitely audible by placing your ear over the left & right air intake at the front. Doesn't sound metallic though, more like crickets chirping!!!... sss, sss, sss, sss in rhythm with the engine.

I'm not sure even I can take this thread seriously after reading it back!...Maybe I am getting old & paranoid, but just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience?

  2. Resonance?

  3. Loose air filter vibrating each time the engine sucks in a gulp of air ?

  4. Does sound like resonance of some kind. I have BMC air filters and they are slid into their inserts and very snug. I did think it could be something to do with the Ali coolant expansion tank that I now have in there

  5. loose radiator guard?

  6. I was under the impression you needed airbox pressurisation to create resonance.
Without ram air, would this happen with the bike idling on the stand?

  7. How are you exhaust manifold springs? , I had a similar sound (I think) from my 999 rear cylinder and it was a leaking joint on the exhaust

  8. Injectors?

  9. Definitely comes from inside/amplified from airtubes - Airbox area. As when you put your ear to intakes you can hear it. I do have a new Leo Vince exhaust on it, but all springs are nice and tight, not to say though it could be a slight leak. My thinking it is a leak of some sort.
