Careful the discounted 790 are usually 2019 model, if it has Orange wheels it's 2020 model Black wheels 2019 model. I paid 6850 OTR for mine in January. They're a very capable bike I like mine as does my mate his, good luck.
I read the 2019 was the same as 2020 apart from wheel colour Still need to test ride one and compare it to a monster 1100
There is a very cheap 821 on ebay at the moment, £4049 or best offer so presumably an offer close to £4k would get it. Worth a look perhaps?
I looked at the 821,it looks clean and cheap really but without riding anything yet I had kind of decided on a 1100S
Think i would chose the 821 - the engineering on the 1200 (after 13k miles) seems very solid and well put together one of the few downsides is that single side swing arm (heavy, needs air wrench and special tools to remove the wheel, special paddock stand and that corroding eccentric chain adjuster) On the 821 you loose the half-swing-arm and the power that you don't need (and rarely use )
On the 821 you loose the half-swing-arm and the power that you don't need (and rarely use )[/QUOTE] Speak for yourself ,i love and use the full berries on my 1200R every ride ,all depends on your skill level/experience ,you might be happy with 80bhp ,(guessing here) but i and many others would be bored shitless
Well the 821 apparently has 112 bhp and 89 Nm - I reckon that is actually enough to have a good time If we ignore boring motorways it takes me 25 mile to get to a road where i can hold full throttle in 4th I don't lack the experience - must be the lack of skill . Glad to hear that someone can use 124.5 Nm on every ride!
I also think the 1200 would be too quick I've noticed since I've started riding the Hornet900 and the er6n my speeds have increased ,especially as I've been riding to work throughout the lockdown on empty roads The 821 would be plenty fast ,I'm thinking a smaller, lighter bike with less power is often more fun I did test ride a BMW 310 ,that was a bit too slow!
My mate had a 1200s the a Tuono, he's handy on a bike but both are way overpowered for UK roads in his experience. He has like me a KTM 790 which is similar to a 821 and is plenty enough for UK A and B roads. Before that he had a KTM 690 which was a little underpowered so for me the middleweights win it.
Been just browsing adverts last couple of weeks ,hardly any 1100s for sale over the whole country Added a hypermotard to the short list, again not many for sale I guess I shouldn't rule out the 821 or even a 797 as they have been mentioned previously ,I do really prefer the simpler air cooled models I think though, but the power drop to the 797 from the 1100 or 821 I'm not sure of ,until ive ridden one
There’s an 1100S for sale on the UK Monster Owners Facebook, good price IMO but high(ish) mileage, although if condition, service history, receipts all indicate it’s been looked after it wouldn’t worry me too much. https://www.facebook.com/groups/494210677347176/permalink/2612761715492051/
There seem to be a few base 1100 models around. I appreciate that they come with different shocks but for average riders like me the base is more than good enough especially if you can get to a suspension specialist and get it set up to suit you.
@Mattt I`m biased as I have one of these . The 1000cc engine is close to the 1100 in performance so well worth a look IMO. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-06-...313257?hash=item1cebfd0a29:g:IwkAAOSwPt9ejfn0
